American Dentists Angered By Woody Allen’s New Movie

Dentists in America have reacted badly to the portrayal of their profession in Woody Allen’s latest film, Blue Jasmine.

According to an article in the New York Daily News, dentists in Hollywood were angered by Allen’s depiction of the dental profession in the film, which stars Cate Blanchett and Michael Stuhlberg. Australian actress, Blanchett plays Jasmine, a divorced New York socialite who moves to San Francisco to take up a new position working with dentist, Dr Flicker, who is played by Stuhlberg.

To begin with Dr Flicker seems like a reasonable character, but he soon starts to make sexual advances towards Jasmine.

According to reports in the American press, dentists are sick of their portrayal of sleazy womanisers in films and television shows and feel that their reputation is being sullied by the entertainment industry.

Dr Mark S. Wolff, chairman of the New York University College of Dentistry, said that “on screen, we range from killers to buffoons to sexual harassers”. Dr Debra Glassman, a dentist in the Upper West Side that it was true that films and TV shows liked to poke fun at dentists. Dr Wolff said that he hoped people would not be put off going to the dentist after watching Blue Jasmine and joked that if Woody Allen needs a referral, he would be happy to help.

Allen’s film has created a buzz in Hollywood, attracting rave reviews and mentions of Oscar nominations.
