An American businessman has closed his dental business in Manila, leaving four hundred workers without a job.

Laurence Kevin Fishman, owner of the Skytech International Dental Laboratories, which specialised in the manufacture of dental instruments and prosthetics, left for America last week; he emailed his employees to say that the company had gone bankrupt and would cease trading from the 25th August.

Fishman has fled to the USA and is refusing to answer calls from the head of human resources at Skytech, Darwin Landicho. Landicho said he had been trying to contact Fishman since staff received the email; however Fishman has declined to answer his calls.

The closure of the company will leave more than four hundred people jobless; it is also believed that the employees are owed millions of pesos in unpaid wages. It has also been reported that Fishman has outstanding rent and electricity bills.

More than 100 former employees protested against the closure of the business yesterday and some are planning to take legal action against Laurence Fishman; a trial will be brought in front of officials from the Department of Labour and Employment.

What a crook. I hope his employees get all the pay they earned, and this crook gets the punishment he deserves.
