An ambitious orthodontist from Milngavie has plenty to smile about after scooping a prestigious award. At just 29 years old, Lauren Anderson is one of the UK’s youngest orthodontists, and her ambition and skill have been recognised after a panel selected her as the winner of The Young Dentist of the Year award at the Scottish Dental Awards.

Lauren was 21 when she decided that she wanted to become an orthodontist. After qualifying from Glasgow University, she pursued further study, undertaking an MSc at Newcastle University and gaining entry into the prestigious Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh.

Lauren, from Milngavie Orthodontics, was presented with the award at a celebratory dinner at the Glasgow Hilton on the 19th May. Lauren thinks her interest in orthodontics stemmed from her own experiences of having treatment at the age of 19.

Lauren was delighted to receive the award and said that nights like the gala dinner make 11 years’ worth of training worth the while. She enjoys working in orthodontics because it enables her to spend time with young patients, and it’s really satisfying to see the difference treatment can make to a young patient’s confidence levels and their willingness to smile. Every day is different, and you get the chance to meet people from all walks of life.

Lauren’s achievements were lauded by practice owner, Geoff Glass, who complemented her on her commitment and skill level, as well as her ability to make patients feel comfortable and relaxed. The team is now in the process of organising a fitting celebration.
