An ambitious dentist is hoping to turn a former café into a brand new surgery in the heart of Sheffield.
Dr Ihsan Khaliq has submitted a proposal to convert the former Masala Dosa Café on Ecclesall Road into a new practice. The café closed down in 2017, and the unit has been vacant since.
Dr Khaliq, who already has a clinic in Bawtry near Doncaster, has provided a statement suggesting that the local area would benefit from a new medical facility. The proposal, which was put forward by Max Design Consultancy on behalf of Dr Khaliq, states that local people would be able to take advantage of a “high quality dental service” and provides details of four new jobs. The city centre site is ideally located for patients who use public transport, with great links in the surrounding area, and there will also be private parking available for patients who prefer to drive.
The statement also suggests that other local businesses could benefit from the opening of the surgery, which would boost the local economy.
The application will now be considered by planning officers at the city council.
