Ambitious dentist hopes to expand portfolio with new dental surgery in Swale

An ambitious dentist is hoping to add to his company’s portfolio after applying to convert a former supermarket into a new surgery near Swale.

Dr Ashkan Pitchforth founded Dumbledore Dental Centre, which trades under the brand name South Cliff Dental Care, five years ago. Dr Pitchforth has plans to grow the business, and is hoping to secure a new site in Faversham, near Swale. The premises in question have been vacant since the Iceland frozen food store closed in September 2019.

The application details plans to create a new six-room dental clinic, which would provide both NHS and private dental services. Dr Pitchforth has urged councillors to consider the application carefully in a bid to improve access to NHS dental care in the area, which is currently suffering from a shortage of dentists.

If the plans to turn the East Street unit into a dental practice are approved, Dr Pitchforth is planning to hire ten members of staff. The opening hours would be 8am until 6am during the week and 9am-5pm on Saturdays. The name would be Faversham Dental Care, and the clinic would be part of a network of 15 surgeries that operate across the region, providing NHS and private dental services.

The exterior of the building would not be altered significantly according to the plans, which have not yet been evaluated by Swale Council’s planning committee.

Dr Pitchforth is keen to get the surgery up and running as soon as possible and has encouraged planning officers to make a decision as quickly as they can.
