Almost half of the people participating in a recent survey revealed that they regularly skip brushing their teeth before they go to bed.

The survey, which was carried out by dental charity, the British Dental Health Foundation, revealed that 47 percent of people in the UK regularly go to bed without cleaning their teeth.

The survey also revealed that women were more likely to neglect their oral hygiene, with 59 percent admitting to regularly skipping evening teeth cleaning. In contrast, only 10 percent of people skip cleaning their teeth in the morning.

The British Dental Health Foundation carried out the survey as part of National Smile Month, a national campaign to raise awareness of the importance of good oral health.

The results of the survey show that many people are not taking good care of their teeth and gums and as a result of this, they are putting their oral health at risk. Dr Nigel Carter, chief executive of the BDHF, said that people need to realise the importance of good oral health and many people are unaware that oral health problems can contribute to very serious, potentially life-threatening illnesses, including diabetes and strokes. Brushing in the mornings and evenings will help to reduce the risk of oral health conditions.
