Alberta Dentist Hosting Free Clinic

A dentist from Alberta is hosting a free dental clinic for the second year running.

Dr Perica Nonkovic and his team of staff at Access Dental are hosting a free dental day as part of the Dentistry from the Heart campaign. The event will take place on Saturday and dentists are hoping to treat at least 50 people.

Dr Nonkovic said that many people are putting up with dental pain because they cannot afford to visit a dentist and Dentistry from the Heart events are a means of reaching out to these people and providing them with the care they need. Dr Nonkovic said that last year’s event was a great success and a lot of fun for all those involved, as well as being a great way to deliver care to those who are most in need.

Last year, appointments were pre-booked but the team found that many people who had registered did not show up and they ended up treating people who were queuing on the day. As a result of this, Saturday’s clinic will operate on a first come, first served basis.

A range of services, including cleaning treatments, examinations, fillings and extractions will be available but Dr Nonkovic said that the priority will be to stop patients from experiencing pain.

Dentistry from the Heart is a non-profit organisation, which started in America and has since spread to Canada, with the aim of the mission being to help people who cannot afford dental treatment. In recent years, as people struggle with the global economic situation, clinics have become increasingly popular, with some people willing to queue for hours to secure an appointment.
