A Quarter of Blackpool Residents Are Not Registered with a Dentist, Report Shows

A report has suggested that a quarter of Blackpool residents are not registered with a dentist. Research carried out by Healthwatch Lancashire shows that one in four people are not currently on a practice list in the Lancashire seaside town.

A study, which involved more than 1,000 people currently living in Blackpool, showed that a significant proportion of people are not listed with a dentist. The report was commissioned to help inform NHS England about demand for dental services in parts of Lancashire.

The ‘Your dentist, Your say’ report showed that 63 percent of people are registered with an NHS practice, 18 percent are registered with a private dentist and 18 percent are not registered with a dentist at all. These figures relate to Lancashire. The statistics for Blackpool were particularly worrying, with 1 in 4 people not listed on a practice register. This is one of the highest figures in the country.

Gill Brown, chief executive of Healthwatch Lancashire, thanked survey participants for their help and said that the data collected would hep to shape the future of NHS dental services in the county.
