A new survey carried out by Oral-B Powerbrush has revealed that most people in New Zealand look for a nice smile in their partner, despite the majority of Kiwis admitting to having poor oral hygiene.

The survey showed that more than 80 percent of Kiwis have cavities, with many also suffering from signs of gum disease as a result of missing out on brushing, flossing and visiting their dentist on a regular basis.

Despite most admitting to poor oral hygiene habits, a staggering 90 percent of participants said that it was important for their partner to have an attractive smile.

The Oral-B Powerbrush survey showed that poor oral health were alarmingly common in New Zealand, with the results revealing that at least 81 percent of participants had cavities, more than half had bleeding gums- a sign of gum disease and more than 40 percent had bad breath.

The research was commissioned by Oral B in conjunction with the launch of the new, state of the art Oral-B Triumph with Smart Guide technology, which has a wireless display and customised brushing settings.

Despite advice from dentists to brush teeth twice a day, just under half of those surveyed admitted to brushing their teeth fewer than twice a day and 10 percent of people brush less than once a day.
