A survey carried out by the Malaysian Health Authority has revealed that 9 out of 10 people suffer from cavities.

President of the Malaysian Dental Health Association, Datuk, Dr How Kim Chuan, said that results of the survey were alarming and present a real risk to general health, as many studies have linked poor oral health to serious health issues, including diabetes, strokes and heart disease.

The president claimed that many Malaysians are unaware of the importance of good oral health for good general health and as a result of this, they put off going to the dentist until they are already suffering from toothache and discomfort. Speaking at the launch of the Colgate Oral Health Month campaign, he said that dentists were hoping to raise awareness of the importance of good oral hygiene and regular visits to the dentist.

The campaign, which is entitled ‘Our Mission: Zero Cavities’ is being supported by dentists across the country and over 700 clinics are offering free dental check-ups.
