A 76 year old volunteer has completed another gruelling physical challenge to raise money for Mercy Ships, a charity that provides health and dental care to some of the world’s poorest people.

Ken Brazier from Prices Risborough recently completed his eighth charity challenge. Ken travelled to Santiago de Compstela to cycle as much of the famous routes as possible. He has now raised more than £60,000 for charity, despite the fact that he has been diagnosed with osteoarthritis.

He started supporting Mercy Ships after hearing a presentation about the work the charity does at a Rotary Club event in 2003. Since then, Ken and his wife June have given more than 500 presentations across the UK, informing crowds about the charity and the kinds of volunteer projects they support.

Ken took part in his first fundraising challenge in 2007 when, at the age of 67, he conquered Mount Kilimanjaro. He followed this feat with a host of cycling pilgrimages in Santiago de Compstela and is now planning his next adventure. For his next cycling trip, Ken will be staying close to home, taking on a ride from Loosely Row in Buckinghamshire to Lymington before boarding a ferry over to the Isle of Wight and completing a tour of the island.

Even though he’s approaching 77, Ken says there is plenty of life left in his legs and he is determined to continue supporting Mercy Ships.
