Temporary veneer broken 4 times!!
Hi guys,
I had temporary veneers fitted 3 weeks ago and they have broken off 4 times! I have been very careful and eating only soft foods but the problem keeps reoccuring to my left lateral and k9. What could this be caused by? I am considering asking for a more experienced dentist to fit my real veneers as I am currently very distressed and I am frightened that the real ones will fall off.
Thanks.

This is one of the good things about temporary veneers, we get to find out potential problems!
Your dentist needs to ascertain what could be causing the problem. Without a consultation it's difficult to say what the problem may be. Occasionally with very thin temporary veneers they can chip in certain areas just simply because the material is thin. This may have no reflection on your final veneers.
Your dentist should be checking your bite etc to make sure this will be no long term problem. I hope you can understand why we really can't say what the problem may be without a consultation
I hope this helps

Thanks for your response Dr. I have a feeling it might be something to do with me grinding my teeth when I'm asleep but I am surprised that my dentist hasn't caught this as the problem keeps coming back. I'm really doubting her abilities and I'm very concerned.

I would recommend that you speak with your dentist about this. As I mentioned, there are many factors at play

As much as it can be very concerning for you as the patient to have
problems with your temporary veneers you should NOT be worried at this
stage. Temporary veneers are used as a template for the final veneers
and the fact that your dentist is using temporaries/prototypes is a good
sign as it allows visualization of the final veneers. Temporary veneers
are only tacked in place and so are not nearly as strongly secured to
your own teeth as the permanent veneers will be. Generally in my
experience it is the cases in which there has been a more conservative
tooth preparation that cause problems with the temporaries and again
this is a good indicator of the skills of your current dentist as the
more conservative the preparation of natural tooth the better . This
ensures optimal bonding to enamel which is the strongest bond available.
Hopefully your dentist can reassure you along the same lines and once
the final veneers are fitted then the problems should stop. It is only
if there are problems with your final veneers that you should have the
concerns .
