True Laser whitening should no longer be used, research published in the British Dental Journal showed that using a Laser to warm tooth whitening gel, can lead to a huge increase in the surface temperature of the teeth possibly leading to death of the vital tissues inside the teeth. Laser whitening is NO MORE effective than any other form of whitening, its all marketing rubbish!!
Other forms such as Zoom2, dentawhite, britesmile etc.. all use an energy source eg uv lamp, blue light, to warm the gel and increase the rate at which the gel breaks down and releases the oxygen free radicals, this is the substance which whitens the teeth!
Bottom line.. 10-16% Carbamide peroxide in a well fitting whitening tray worn nightly for 2 weeks will do the job in most cases. For those of you that want your teeth whiter in a shorter period of time then some form of power whitening using an energy source eg Zoom followed by 1 weeks worth of night time bleaching will do the trick!!DR NILESH R.
