    Default Orthognathic Surgery

    Hello,

I was wondering if anyone knew anything about orthognathic (jaw) surgery and roughly how much it could cost.

I have a bad open bite caused by thumb sucking longer than I should have which means I can only really eat with a couple of my back teeth (which is a pain in the neck if you ever eat a sandwich with lettuce in!) and my smile is just goofy. I'm just fed up with it but being a student I'm already in debt so doing something like this would be a big consideration. I guess you can't get this sort of thing done on the NHS.

I'm just finding it really hard to get any information about this procedure and how much it costs - do you need to get referred by a dentist in order to get anything like this done?

Has anyone had this procedure done?

If anyone can tell me anything that would be great!

    Hi

I would recommend you get your dentist to refer you to a good orthodontist. If you require orthognathic surgery then the orthodontist would work closely with a maxilofacial surgeon, therfore being a team approach.

Unfortuantely I do not know how much this would cost.

    Good Luck!

How much do consultations with orthodontists cost these days? And if I had to see someone else such as a maxilofacial surgeon like you said would that cost even more?

    Thanks

    Hi

The best way to find the cost of a consulation would be to phone the orthodontic practice directly. Each practice varies. Remember , it is important to seek an experienced orthodontist.

If you do require surgery, then it would cost more.
