    Default Extractions for braces

My 13 year old son is soon to have braces fitted. He has 2 teeth coming out quite high up in his top gum and has overcrowding.
Before he starts the braces treatment he has to have teeth extracted. The plan is to take 2 teeth from the top and 2 from the bottom. He has also retained 5 baby teeth and they have to come out as well. The dentist has given him 2 appointments to get out the 9 teeth.
He is very nervous about the exractions and thinking and talking about it all the time.

Is it normal to have so many teeth out for braces and will 2 appointments be enough?

I would really appreciate any advice that anyone can offer.

As a child I had supernumerary teeth. I had 7 removed in one go. I was 10 years old, it didn't bother me, however, my dad had to carry me to the car because my legs were like jelly and I was a little light headed from the injections!

I know my answer is three years too late, but it may help someone else with the same question
