Would there be any problem in fixing refitted crown which is sticking out?

Q. Hi, I hope you can help me, i have recently had acrown and a veneer fitted on my two front teeth, my crown came out after only a week. my dentist has put it back in with a stronger cement however has pushed it froward when putting it in. now it sticks out further than my other teeth. my dentist has said she can take it out but will have to numb it and there is the chance the root might crack or the crown. do you have any advise on what to do. Thanks

A. You will need to discuss this with your dentist as I cannot assess your situation without examining you- sorry

Hi Dr Caplan,

Do you not think even without an examination you could inform this patient that the dentist has performed sub standard dentistry. Crowns should not be falling out after one week ( probably due to incorrect cementation in the first place or a wrongly preped tooth with no retention) and then re-fitted in the wrong position, telling the patient all the possible negative outcomes in the correction process. Would you accept this treatment and give the same advice if a family member received such poor treatment and advice.

Yours sincerely

John
