Will my retainer work to move my teeth back into position?

Hi,
I had braces around 7 years ago may be longer, I did wear my retainer but from how my teeth have moved back it is clear that I didn’t wear them for long enough. I am really particular about my teeth & like them to look nice & most importantly be healthy. I have recently been wearing my retainers again although I have noticed the movement of my teeth it is very slight, but it hurts when I wear my retainer I know this is normal but I am still able to get them on, am I doing damage to my teeth by wearing my retainer over night? I am 20 by the way if that makes a different.

Hi I think it would be wise that you return to your orthodontist or choose a new one to advise you correctly as it is important that your situation is assessed in person. It may well be ok to use the retainer as you are but I would get professional advice to make sure
