Will braces make my baby teeth fall out

Q. I have recently visited a private dentist for the first time to query braces/veneers. As I still have a lot of baby teeth in my top set I was informed that the brace may make them fall out-is this correct? If so would I just be left with gaps? He suggested veneers but wouldn’t this make the teeth fall out too?

A. The best treatment may be a combination of both types of treatment, braces and veneers. The choice depends on how many baby teeth you still have, whether the roots of the baby teeth are strong and whether the baby teeth are mobile or solid.
There is always a risk in both types of treatments that you may loose one or even some of your baby teeth and there is also a risk that your adult teeth need root canal treatment. This depends on how much your teeth need to be moved with braces or how much shaving down is necessary for veneers.

The other issue that needs to be taken into consideration is the way you bite together. If you have baby teeth I am assuming that the lower adult teeth touch them. This means that either way your treatment may need careful treatment planning and coordination especially if you are going to have combination treatment.
If you live or can travel to Buckinghamshire I would be happy to see you for a consultation to advise on the best course of treatment. My practice phone number is 01296 624163.

If you can’t then go and see a dentist that has experience in cosmetic and restorative procedures and someone that works closely with an orthodontist. Definitely don’t go to an NHS dentist as veneers are not available on the NHS and your treatment choices will be extremely limited.

Ask to look at a portfolio so that you can see before and after examples of the dentists work.
I hope this helps

Kind Regards
