Why are my teeth so sensitive?

Q.
I have receeding gums and sensitive teeth.eg eating icecream one day is fine the next terrible pain. always have sensitve teeth even when i have not ate or drunk anything for a couple of hours.wake up in the morning sensitive teeth not painful but pain always in the background. dentist told me my brushing is perfect but i have to admit many years ago i use to scrub my teeth very very hard hence why they are probably the way they are. hospital told me to see my dentist soon so that he can put something on my gums and use a type of light on them which will happen in a couple of weeks then back to hospital in october to see how they are. hop you can help as i want them whitened.

In order to give you some accurate advice, it would be advisiable for you to come and have a consultation so I can assess the full extent of your problem. There are a few solutions to sensitivity issues that we could look in to. If your own dentist cannot resolve the issues then maybe come and see me or one of my team or other colleagues on the site here for some advice and a second opinion

Best wishes

last month I had a deep cleening done and 2 weeks ago I had 3 fillings done. Every since both of them were done I can not drink anything cold. Yes, I brush and floss. How long will this last? The dentist suggest that I brush more and I tried to ask her on how to keep my teeth white and I asked about the sensitivity, the only response was for me to go back every month. What can I do? yes, I had gum disease because I never went to a dentist until last month, I still have my teeth I’m 40 with 3 fillings. please your opinion will help

It can be the case that your teeth can become temporarily sensitive after cleaning or fillings placed. Don’t worry, if it remains for a month, then do go back and see your dentist. Regards,

I had a filling done a couple weeks ago and 3 days ago I did a scale and polish, the tooth that i had the filling done has now become very sensitive especially if i drink water or eat something crunchy it would hurt alot. This has happened only after the scale and polish though. Should I make an appointment to see the dentist again or is this ‘normal’? What could be the problem? It was never that way before.

I would advise a clinical examination of your teeth and mouth to help diagnose the problem.

My dentist has told me I have chronic gum disease and my gums are receding, I am 56, I have been using cordosyl mouth wash for a couple of years, yet she has told me not to use it!! is she right? as since ive stopped using it my gums bleed and are more painful. I have been abroad for ten ten years and had little treatment there as very expensive! while there I did use a bleach to whiten the teeth which I got from the chemist it was 50 euros so not a cheap one, is that whwt satrted it/

Jalynn Says :

Your dentist is right in that Corsodyl is not proven to control or help with Periodontal disease. I doubt the bleaching caused this, it is usually a mixture of genetics/oral hygiene/smoking/ and many other risk factors but I would encourage you to follow up on this and follow your dentists advice.

Hello, I have just started using an electric toothbrush as my dentist always goes on about them so I finally gave in and got one.I have been using it for just over a week but I am finding that my gums are very sore in certain places, I have an ulcer and they bleed when I brush my teeth. They didn’t used to bleed so I am a bit concerned. Is this normal? I am already thinking of getting rid of the electric brush and returning to my normal one. Thank you.

Electric toothbrushes are great, I would take it along at your next check up and get them to show you how to use it properly, they can be technique sensitive.
