what percentage of carbamide peroxide for teeth whitening

Q. Hi, just clarifying what percentage of carbamide peroxide are we legally allowed (by the gdc) to use for whitening patient’s teeth. thanx.

A.

Tooth whitening products contain bleach and need to be handled with caution. Under the terms of the Cosmetic Products (Safety) Regulations it is illegal for tooth whitening products to be supplied which contain more than 0.1% hydrogen peroxide or for any associated products which release greater than 0.1% hydrogen peroxide to be supplied.

Hello
I need to get my teeth whitened and have seen a website for dentway charging just £50.00 to have them whitened using 16 or 21% carbamide peroxide. they say its exactly the same bleaching gel that the dentist uses and same strength, but it is cheaper because you do it yourself at home. Now I have just read that it is illegal to use more than 0.1% peroxide. This is making me very confused, as I just dont know what to beleive, and the where to go or what to buy for the best and cheapest treatment. I would greatly appreciate your advise, on wheather to use get the product posted to me from dentway or not. Thank you.

I have whitened my teeth with 17% carbamide peroxide given to me by my dentist. I now read that this amount could damage my teeth. Should I go back to my dentist to ask about safety? Please advise.
