What Medication Should I Expect To Receive After Root Canal Treatment?

Q.
I am going in to see a dentist today for root canal treatment. The last time I saw the dentist was about 5 days ago and have had massive headaches and sharp pains in both my face and the infected tooth. The dentist prescribed lortabs until I get to see him again for the actual root canal treatment. Is it typical for a dentist to prescribe something stronger then tylenol after I get a root canal done if I have been having a lot of pain thus far with it? I’m scared to go in today and not be able to get adequate relief pain wise. What would you advise? I know he’s a dentist and knows what he’s talking about but the other medication just did not seem to work and I haven’t even had the treatment yet. Thank you for your time and help, regards.

Hello, thank you for your question. Pain following root canals is not uncommon and the dentist will likely prescribe you something appropriate for pain to take for a day or two after the procedure. Regards.
