What can I do about preventing food from getting stuck in a crowned tooth?

Q.
Dear Sir/Madam

I had a crown fitted over a tooth about 2 months ago. The tooth had a filling about 13 years old and my current dentist recommended a crown as opposed to a replacement filling. The filling was done in a way that I could not floss properly between the teeth and that’s why I wanted to do something about it.
About 2 months after the crown being fitted, I constantly have a feeling food gets stuck in between teeth and not even flossing helps. When I run my nail underneath the crown it smells really unpleasantly. Does this mean the food somehow gets underneath the crown and rots there?
I am regretting having the crown fitted.
What is the best thing to do now?

I very much appreciate an answer to my problem.

Yours sincerely

A.
It does sound like there maybe a problem with the crown – ideally these are natural in apperance and comfort and function. They should meet the adjacent teeth smoothly and you should not feel and ledges or voids. They are often recommended when you have a large filling as they are stronger than heavily filled teeth. I would recommend you return to you dentist and discuss your concerns directly with them – it may require a replacement. If this is a difficult situation I would recommend you speak to another dentist soon rather than later to avoid any further problems with this tooth or the one next to it.
Good luck
