What can I do about my overcrowding teeth in my mandible?

Q.
I am 19 years old and I have overcrowding teeth in the mandible .
I want to have braces but I’d like to know
if this would make me lose my third molars or any other tooth as my dentist said that the overcrowding is because of their eruption or dentists can widen my mandibular arch ?
I am a second year student of dentistry but I haven’t taken any courses about prosthodontics yet!

Hi

The answer to your question really depends on the exact postion and influence of your wisdom teeth on the other teeth positions. It is generally regarded that the wisdom teeth do not have much influence on the lower incisor teeth crowding but they certainly can influence the positon of the molars

Your best best is to speak to an Orthodontist and I’m sure as a student in dental school there are plenty of teachers around you could ask

An opinion on the suitability of removal of the 3rd molars might be needed from an Oral surgeon….prosthodontics don’t really come into it

Hope that helps and good luck with your studies
