What can be done about receding gums caused by smoking?

Q. would anything be able to be done as my gums are receding due to years of smoking. My front upper teeth used to cross slightly and there is now a pronounced gap.I have had numerous extractions on the upper left hand side and on the lower right hand side due to being scared of dentists. I am attempting to stop smoking for good and would like to get my smile back and look younger. Is there anything I could have done? Please advise if you can, I live in Derby Derbyshire.,
A. Stopping smoking is a good first step. You will also need to replace the missing back teeth as the loss of these teeth is causing added pressure on your front teeth causing them to drift forward.Once the back teeth have been restored then some sort of cosmetic treatment such as veneers or braces would finish things off for you.
