What are the long term effects of a sinus lift?
Q.
What type of long term effects can/should be expected with a sinus lift? I am looking at getting 6 implants in my top jaw (3 right side & 3 left) & was informed by my dentist today that I would have to have a sinus lift in order to accomplish this. I’m not worried about the surgury itself, but I am concerned if there are any long term affects to my sinus or possibly even tear ducts. I already have seasonal allergies and usually plenty of sinus pressure all year long.

Sinus lift surgery if carried out correctly has shown to be safe over a 20 year period. You’ll need to discuss the material to be used in the procedure with your dentist. Obviously all surgery has risks of failure in the same way that some implants fail. Implants show a slightly increased failure rate in grafted bone than they do in natural bone, however if this bone does not exist then often this is the only solution.
