What are the best veneers lumineers, cerec, J.Kim ?

Q. Having just had a quote from my dentist in Liverpool I felt more like I was being sold double glazing the way in which the price changed. I already have a now dated bridge in place of 3 teeth + 3 crowns + am looking to have veneers over my ten top teeth. I think I also need gum reshaping + obviously whitening of bottom teeth. My dentist recommended J. Kim veneers and said they were by far the best, but going on various websites everyone says differently some saying lumineers, cerec etc. Some even say they will do the whole process in one day, is this advisable and what veneers do you recommend? I would prefer to travel a bit to find someone who I could trust, do you do free consultations in Birmingham or if not is there someone who you could recommend. I do hope you can help.

A. I am sorry to hear about your problems finding a solution to your problems. As you are considering having a considerable amount of cosmetic work done, you are a very attractive patient to any dental practice. Most dental practices, ourselves included, would be happy to offer you a free consultation.

Regarding the best veneer system to use, I believe that a lot depends on what the dentist & producing laboratory are used to using. The next consideration is what the veneers are trying to do, correcting crooked teeth, masking discolouration or general tidy up . the subtle differences between systems will affect what is best for you I use two systems routinely . The final restorations of one day veneers are unlikely to be aesthetically superior than rivals, however there is a market for such products if time is limited.

Should you wish to visit the Bennett’s Hill Practice we would be happy to discuss what your dental work might involve without high pressure sales or double glazing. We are two minutes walk from New Street Station if you are traveling in by main line rail, alternatively any of the city centre car parks are fine if you travel by car.

Please feel free to phone on 0121 643 0610 if you would like to talk over your case further.

Dear Rob

I’m interested in getting veneers as I feel extremley conscious of my teeth, which are (in the words of some of bad mannered people) are like a row of bombed houses! I’m aware of proceduces, but i’m also aware of the cost, which I’m prepaired to pay, but my only hope would be to set up a payment plan, credit is against me at this present time.
It’s not about vanity, but more about confidence and being able to smile without being feeling ashamed of my smile.
I hope you can give me advice Thanks Noel

I sympathise! Although not veneers I am in treatment for Invisalign at present. I saw about ten different dentists before committing. The difference I found was stark – well that’s almost true. MOST sadly (8 out of 10) were just after your money! 9 of 10 would keep you waiting 15-30 minutes then try to appease you with Perrier! Most provided a generally “shallow” experience, smiling broadly while trying to work out how much they could fleece you by. To give you an idea the price ranged from £2 – £5k. Some were not even subtle, reducing the price by £1000 when I winced – so clearly trying to rip me off in the first place! Now I travel to Cambridge for my treatment, some 3 hours away (I am also Birmingham based!) It is so worth it. Finally, I have a great dentist at a fair, transparent price with no nasty surprises or extras. There are no faux leather sofas or Perrier water or new “black edition” uniforms for the staff. Just great, honest dentistry at a fair price, on time with no waiting and no pointless treatment. My advice is to keep shopping around and try to spot the early warning signs. Ask lots of questions and see how patient they are with you – the bad ones will start to show their frustration quite soon (time is money after all and the “FREE” consultation, which was only 15 minutes to start with has run out!) Hope this helps.
