There is too much of a gum look in my smile. Would gum reshaping work and would this be done with a laser?
Q.
Dear Dr Hughes,
Dear Dr Hughes,
My teeth are in an excellent condition and they are very symmetrical too as I had orthodontics when I was younger.
However, my gums are not symmetrical and I believe that in some places there is more gum than there should be. I would like to know (a) if I could have my gums reshaped, (b) if part of the bone would have to be removed, (c) if this can be done with the use of laser, and (d) what would the cost be. I can gladly send you a picture if you need more information. Depending on your answers, I would be happy to proceed and have them reshaped at your practice.
Thank you in advance.

Great questions and thanks for writing in. Just looking at a photo however would not be sufficient to be able to answer your questions. We’d have to physically examine your gum tissue and also take some X-rays to have a look at the bone. My advice would be for you to come and meet with myself and pour specialist periodontist (gum specialist) so we can examine you properly and then advise you.
