the hygienist didn’t polish my teeth is this correct

Q. I AT LAST GOT DENTAL COVERAGE AND I MADE AN APPOINTMENT TO GET MY TEETH CLEANED AND THE DENTIST DID A PARTIAL CLEANING AND INDICATED I HAD A LOT OF PLAQUE, WHICH I WAS AWARE OF SO HE DID A PARTIAL CLEANING AND NO FLOSSING OR POLISHING AND DIDN’T REMIND ME TO COME BACK IN 6MOS. AFTER CLEANING AREN’T THEY SUPPOSE TO BE POLISHED.

A. Hot topic in NHS Dentistry. Polishing removes stain which is desirable but it doesn’t have a big effect on gingivitis. If a patient has excellent long term brushing they will slowly remove the old stains themselves. The average adult shuld see a dentist about once a year according to new guidelines. Often you may find youare recommende to see a hygeinist privately for polishing etc. At one of our practices the we have a hygeinist does provide NHS Scale & Polishes, but she is pretty rare
