Q.
Hi Dr I recently went for a check up at my dentist as I was concerned that my teeth were moving forward due to my wisdom teeth being slightly impacted. I have in the past been to an Orthadontic hopital were they have carried out x-rays and concluded that they would not remove my wisdom as they are too close to the nerves. Therefore when I went for my recent check up I was keen to hear what the dentist would say about the movement of my teeth as they seem to get worse as time goes by. The dentist told me that the reason my teeth are moving is nothing to do with my wisdom teeth but is in fact caused by the contracting of my jaw muscle, which push the teeth forward. She also imformed me that this would get worse as time passed and that the only way to rectify it would be to have a brace, however the teeth could, once the brace is removed, move again! I have seen all the recent publicity of Invisalign and wonder if I was to go ahead and order Invisalign braces, would I, once these have been removed, need to wear a permanent retainer? And if so, would this be for the foreseeable future? Your advice is much appreciated. Many thanks
