would a cosmetic dentist offer a superior service compared to local dentist?

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009
Q.
Hi, i’m 45yrs old and very self conscious about my smile even though i do get compliments on my looks it doesn’t change how i feel. my top front teeth have shortend over the past 10yrs, i have been told my bite is OK and i could have vaneers applied to correct there appearance. my bottom teeth have a few gaps which need correcting and an orthodontic said a brace may correct this but my dentist is not sure this would and due to my age if the teeth would stay once corrected? i am very confused to what to do as i cannot afford financially to make a mistake .i live near Aberdeen and my dentist is local, how ever she does not appear to be confident in which would be my best options so i decided to visit a practice that specialize in cosmetic dentistry in Aberdeen called Fergus&Glover to get a second opinion. i was inspired by there knowledge and advice, they estimated that to create a nice smile again it would cost £16,000 this included vaneers, a replacement crown, whitening and any dentistry work. unfortunately i cannot afford that amount. so i wanted to ask you what do you think would be the best option would be to correct the bottom gaps and also would a cosmetic dentist offer a superior service compared to a local dentist? would the quality of the vaneers be a superior finish. kind regards,

i have overlapping front teeth my question is whether veneers or crowns is the best option

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009
Q.
Hi, Im hoping you can help one very confused person! I have 2 overlapping front teeth. Apart from that my teeth are fine.I am considering having veneers/crowns fitted to improve my smile. I would get braces, but am inhibited by the the time that would take and the cost (I dont want the ones that can be seen -I would if I thought it affordable or possible, get ivisalign or the ones set behind the teeth). So my question is I suppose, veneers or crowns? I have an appointment with a dentist in the next couple of weeks and and am not sure which is the better option, in terms of causing minimal damage to my teeth in the long run? Any advice would be much appreciated!!!! Thanks

Are there any better methods than veneers? are implants the strongest solution available?

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009
Q.
I had 4 porcelain veneers fitted approx 4 years ago and not fitted all that well I thought but never had it done before so could not make any comparisons. One cracked from top to bottom yesterday and now one half has fallen off. Not a good look and my dentist left the practise at end of March, no replacement dentist and others fully booked. Are there any better methods than veneers? Why can’t layers of an enamel-like substance be fixed on? Are implants the only strongest solution available now? Mention average costs please.

would the luminars strengthen my teeth stoping further chips how long do they last?

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009
Q.
I need to replace two vaniers on my front teeth, as they’ve been in-place for over 20 years, and are blackening around the top edges where the bonding material was used orginally. However they are slightly prominent compared to my other teeth as the stand farer forward, than my other teeth, would this be due to old technology and would ne ones be much thinner or would I have to have all the front ones vaneered. I would also like to have Lunineers fitted on my teeth as a couple of my bottom teeth are starting to chip as they are warning away – no major chips just small ones on the edges, would the luminars strengthen my teeth stoping further chips and if so how long do they last? Thanks

i am not happy with my porcelain veneers would i able to re mould them or get a new one

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009
Q.
Hi there, I had some porcelain veneers fitted onto my front 4 teeth around 2 years ago, they are in perfect condition, but I have never been totally happy with them. They don’t seem to fit perfectly and they always seemed slightly too big. I was just wondering if I would be able to visit a dentist to re-mould them slightly, or would I simply have to get new ones. If I they could re re-modeled slightly, do you know what kind of price I would be looking at? Many thanks.

Hi, I am 16 and have 2 impacted teeth and 2 missing teeth. My mouth can only fit 2 teeth. In a result I’ll have 2 missing teeth and the gaps will be closed by braces. I was wondering if in later life I could have venners to make it look like I have all of my teeth there?

Would home filling of a chipped tooth is safer than a private dentist

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009
Q.
Hi, about 10 years ago, when i was about 11 years old,i fell in the shower and chipped my front teeth. At the time, the dentist filed down my teeth to straighten them out but, i guess, he couldnt straighten them completely because of the bite. So now, i am left with slighty wonky teeth, making a small upside V shape between the two. This really upsets me and hinders my confidence. I recently went to the dentist to ask for a cap or some extra filing but he said he couldnt as the cap would be too small whilst filing would be problematic for my bite. But to be honest, i’m not to bothered about my bite as i have an underbite anyway, i just want my teeth to be straight! Is there anything i could do? would private dentists do the job? or ive even read about home filing on the internet, is this really safe? Thankyou…
