How Can I Stop the Pain in my Tooth?

Tuesday, April 14th, 2015
Q.

Good evening. I have had a lot of trouble with two of my teeth. I kept getting bad infections. My dentist took the tooth out and gave me a bridge. Once again, two days after I had pus leaking from the tooth with the bridge. After a course of antibiotics my dentist removed the bridge and took out the root which was very smelly and infected and gushed with blood. He had to put a stitch in to stop the bleeding and then put the new plate over the top. I’m in so much pain. He told me to take it out this morning and clean and put it back in. Please can you help me? My next appointment is not until a fortnight’s time. Regards.

Is It Safe to Cut a Bridge to Treat an Infected Tooth?

Monday, March 30th, 2015
Q.

Hi, I have a porcelain coated platinum bridge which I have had for about 23 years and it has not caused any problems. But now I have an infection in one of the teeth holding the bridge, which I have been given antibiotics for.
My dentist said he needs to remove the infected tooth and therefore will cut the bridge at the other tooth and then remove part of the bridge with the infected tooth. Is it safe to cut the bridge? Thank you.

I Have a Lump in my Mouth and Nerve Pain in my Jaw. What Should I Do?

Thursday, November 27th, 2014
Q.

I am very worried. I have had a nerve pain in my top jaw for around two years now and nothing can stop the pain. It doesn’t affect my teeth when I’m eating or drinking, but it hurts to touch, and on the right side under my nose it feels numb. A lump has been there now for around two months and it is getting bigger to the point that I am now stressed, can’t sleep well and I m not sure if it’s something sinister. Last week, my crown fell out and my dentist cemented it back in for me. I pointed out the lump and he said it’s nothing, but he had an emergency patient to deal with so I felt he wasn’t really looking. I can’t get back to see him until 12th December. However I don’t think that I can last that long and I’m not sure what to do next?
If you could advise please that would be great. Many thanks.

Can You Treat Infection Without Replacing Existing Veners

Wednesday, February 20th, 2013
Q.

I’ve had veneers placed in my two front teeth about six years ago due to a tragic blow to my two front teeth. I recently went to a dentist in regards to a wisdom tooth that is coming in, when looking at the x-rays my dentist noticed that there was an infection around the two veneers, examined the two small blister like bumps at the very tgop of my gums where my veneers are. She then right away said I needed to see a specialist in regards to a dental implant. I was so worried and know this can cost MORE than veneers. She didn’t say if the infection has spread to the bone, but did notify me if I waited x amount years it could.
Is there any other solution to treat the infection so that way my veneers DONT need to be replaced?

Help teeth driving me crazy and I get frequent tooth infections. What can be done?

Thursday, May 12th, 2011
Q.

Hi,

I have on-going problems with my teeth, resulting in fairly frequent tooth infections. I’m 27 and so far had 3 wisdom teeth extracted and 2 or 3 others due to poor prognosis.
My teeth are a horrid yellow colour, I have one false tooth which I don’t like, various ones that are chipped, breaking down and one with a hole in i. I would like to know my options on getting them sorted. I have been told by my dentist that I have weak enammel due to my asthma and for this reason wouldn’t be able to get them whitened, are veeners my only option and would I be able to get any help from the NHS?
Thanks for you time Dr Mark Hughes. I hope you find the time in your busy schedule to help me with this. Warmest regards.. 🙂

Why does my tooth keep rising, 18 months after a root canal?

Tuesday, January 25th, 2011
Q.

I have a molar ( #19) that had a root canal 18 months ago. The tooth continues to rise slightly in the socket, and my dentist has to grind the crown down slightly twice. I do wear a splint at night on the upper teeth. I do not feel any pain in the tooth, but as it continues to rise it meets the upper teeth and begins to become tender in the root area. My question is why does the tooth continue to rise, and will it stop rising?

Is it safe to leave the tooth infected in this instance?

Saturday, December 4th, 2010
Q.

Hi Dr Solanki, I had a crown on a root filled molar last year, I have been told that the tooth itself is cracked. I have recently developed a sinus on the gum and when it was x rayed my dentist said that there was some infection in the bone under the tooth and that the bone has “gone” which I found alarming to say the least. However she said there was nothing she can do and that we should wait and see what happens and in the meantime apply corsodyl gel. She seemed to suggest that it was good to have the sinus because the infection can drain. I have had the same dentist for a while but I don’t feel confident in this instance and would be very grateful if you could comment and in particular address the following questions. Is it safe to leave an infection which is affecting the bone in this way? Could the infection clear up of its own accord (I have been under stress recently following the sudden death of my mum and wondered if this had contributed)? Is it safe to have a broken area on the gum particularly given the evidence on heart disease and gum problems? If I lose the tooth I will consider an implant but is the damage to the bone likely to prevent this as an option? I would be very grateful if you could advise me. Many thanks. Kind regards.

I have an infected tooth which I feel needs to be removed, what are my options after extraction?

Saturday, December 4th, 2010
Q.

I have an infected root under a post and crown. The second set of antibiotics have helped but I am
Sure the infection remains as still jaw pain and slight swelling the course finishes in 4 days time. I understand a bridge or implant is the last options after extraction? I am
Unsure which way to go? I have a crown
Next to infected tooth and could this be used to do
Bridge? Or do I compromise tooth behind? With implants can I get any help as a student? I an really confused? Don’t want to leave a gap due to
Being unsightly! Are these my only options apart from a
Denture? Thanks

Can you please advise me on guided bone & tissue regeneration techniques?

Thursday, May 6th, 2010
Q.
I have had an infection in a bottom molar. There has been some gum and bone loss around one of the roots but I am keen to preserve the tooth. Please would you explain how guided tissue regeneration or guided bone regeneration may be able to help. The tooth iseems free of infection now and I can chew perfectly well. However there is significant sensitivity to cold water and food. Please what can you advise? Regards
