Hello Dr Hughes. My teeth won’t close together and it’s they’re all messed up because I used to suck my thumb. I stopped this last year. I really want an operation on my mouth. I can’t even smile. If I was to get an operation do I have to pay? My tongue sticks out and it’s really annoying. I really want to have a perfect straight smile that would close properly and I want to feel happy and good about my teeth.
My jaws are really wonky and they won’t close together while my front teeth are really messed up and they won’t close together. I really need to help. I would love to get surgery.

My Teeth Won’t Close Together Properly As I Used To Suck My Thumb. If I Was To Get An Operation For This, Would I Have To Pay?
Monday, September 1st, 2014I Have Problems Eating And Would Like To Know If I Could Get Braces Through The NHS At A Reduced Rate?
Friday, July 25th, 2014Hello Dr Hughes. I am 75 years old and chronically disabled. Do you know if it could be possible for me to have a brace fitted to enable me to eat properly and to correct a cross bite involving my front teeth. One tooth on the upper jaw and two teeth on the lower set injures my tongue and inner lips when I am eating (I have difficulty eating too as I have few molar teeth) and also when I am asleep? Would this be possible through the NHS or at a very reduced cost? Thank you for your reply in advance.
I have been tongue-tied since birth, would laser treatment be the answer to my problems?
Tuesday, January 3rd, 2012Hi.
I’ve always had a a tongue tie since birth, but it was never corrected. I’m now 22 and have noticed problems with my speech in the recent years and now that I’m noticing it, it’s getting worse.
I’ve read that laser surgery is the best option and the tongue can heal in a couple of hours, instead of weeks.
Where do I go to get this done, and how much is the cost of laser vs. scalpel?
Finally, will this solve the speech problems as I really feel it’s the tongue that can’t make the movements it needs for correct speech unless I really concentrate.
Thank you!
My daughter needs specialist treatment, are you able to recommend anyone?
Thursday, July 28th, 2011 Hello,
Our 12 week old daughter was treated for tongue tie at Kings hospital last week (under her tongue), and we think she may also have a labial frenum under her top lip in at the front that is getting in the way of her flanging her top lip and latching on to breastfeed properly. However this is not treatable at Kings (nor anywhere on the NHS as I understand it). Also we are wondering if it is left untreated it may lead to her requiring orthodontic treatment later on. I have been told that if left this piece of skin gets thicker and is a bigger issue to remedy later on. Is this a surgery that you would recommend for this age? Is it a simple procedure? Can you give a guide as to cost? Thank you
