Will root canal treatment lessen pain caused by teeth with no enamel?

Monday, February 22nd, 2010
Q.
My 14 year daughter unfortunately had her four back teeth come through with no enamal on them, about 3 months ago we had to have a root canal treatment on one of them. She is now in pain again and the dentist has recommended that they try root canal treatment again, the tooth is crumbling away, and she is on anti biotics to try and clear the infection she also has a phobia with needles and dentists! Is another root canal treatment likely to work for her, or would it be best to extract the tooth? This is not an option that she wants as she does not want a gap in her teeth, but the pain she went through last time for it not to work, how many times will they try and do root canal before they say to extract it. Many thanks,

Are veneers cause of tooth pain?

Friday, February 19th, 2010
Q.
Hello Dr Andrew, I have had veneers on my two upper front teeth for over 20 years and they have served me well. However, about 6 weeks ago I developed gingivitis above them and had a small abscess which was addressed by antibiotics. The redness of the gums has gone and so has the abscess but I have had pain in the teeth ever since which is somewhat intermittent. My dentist took X-rays and could not find anything wrong.I told him that I thought I had heard cracking sounds in my mouth but he seems to think my pain is not tooth related..He does not want to take the veneers off because it may not help and said it would cost me £800 to replace them and the bonding is never as good the second time around. He now suggests facial pain clinic if there is no improvement.Could you give me your opinion please.,

Is level of pain normal after root canal treatment?

Monday, January 25th, 2010
Q.
I had route canal treatment on a broken toothe on 21/01/10 at 11am (There was no pain in the tooth prior to treatment). The procedure took 1hr. The morning of the 21/01/10 I awoke in very bad pain (7/10) and returned to the dentist 12.20pm. The dentist removed the top layer of temporary filling advising it must be rubbing the other teeth and causing the discomfort. The pain got gradually worse through the day and I went to bed at 8pm as the pain was so bad. I awoke at 11pm in extreme pain (9.9/10). I have taken 3 X ibruprofen and 2 X paracetamol. These have reduced the pain to a manageable level. Can this be normal? I never exaggerate pain and normally have a good threshold Thanks,

Do damaged crowns really need replacing?

Thursday, January 14th, 2010
Q.
Hi there, my two front teeth are crowns and they have been damaged as i was elbowed in the mouth, i went to my dentists and they said that i will have to have both crowns off and in the meantime a denture and then i can have implants. Is this my best option and why do i have to have a denture in the meantime can i not just get my bone density checked with xrays and ct scan and then start the process of having the implants, many thanks,
