Is It Possible For A Veneer To Be Used Over A Molar That Has Had A Crown On It Before?

Wednesday, July 16th, 2014
Q.

Hi. I have had some very nice porcelain and metal crowns for the last 20 years on three molars that had a lack of enamel when they erupted. Two of these crowns are on opposing molars, and the upper one has had to be replaced due to a small cavity. I was told a crown of the same type wouldn’t be a problem but the new crown arrived looking like a marshmallow with huge metal patches showing through the chewing surface of it. I have had two different dentists tell me that this can’t be helped and any and all replacements would come back the same way because there isn’t enough space to accommodate a porcelain and metal crown like my original, and the only option for me is a plain metal crown. The space is less than 1/16th of an inch, and my dentist wants to avoid reshaping the tooth as it was already very short. She also doesn’t want to risk damage to the root and tooth because aside from the small cavity, it is in good condition. In such a case of a lack of space, is it possible for a veneer to be used over a molar that has had a crown on it before? If so, would it affect or be affected by a porcelain and metal crown below it?

Would Bonding And Veneers Be My Best Options For Filling The Gaps?

Thursday, May 16th, 2013
Q.

I have a 2 mm gap between my front teeth and then less than 1 mm on either side of that, everything else is straight and normal. What would be the best treatment in this case? I don’t want to spend thousands of dollars on braces or Invisalign for something so small. I read something about bonding and veneers, but I’m not sure if those are real options. I’m not an expert though, I’m sure you’ve had more patients in my position. So if you could offer any advice then that would be truly appreciated. Hope to hear from you soon. Thank You!

Q.

Hi there,
I previously had braces for my front gap after 5 years of religiously wearing my plastic retainer the gap has re-opened. Is this the most effective treatment for me? i worry this is an awful lot of money for quite a small gap.

Look forward to hearing from you

Can a small gap between front and lateral tooth be filled?

Tuesday, January 18th, 2011
Q.

Andrew, a hygenist has filed the enamel between my front and lateral tooth through vigarious scraping and so has created a small gap there when there wasn’t one. I know it is not there normally as I have a bonded retainer from orthodontic treatment and my teeth were perfect then. As this small gap is ruining my perfect smile, is there a way that this gap can be bonded with some filling material at all to replace the tooth enamel with the retainer there? The filed gap there now is below the retainer wire so can this be bypassed and bonded?

I have a small gap in my teeth, what is the best thing to do?

Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010
Q.

Hi there! I have developed a bit of a gap between my front teeth over the last couple of years and wonder what the best way is to improve the appearance. Someone told me once that a dentist could put tiny strips of the same stuff used for fillings and put that on either side of my front teeth to help close the gap. Does this sound right? What kind of costs would I be looking at? Gap is about 1-1.5mm wide. Thank you!
