My Dentist Says I Shouldn’t Whiten My Teeth, Should I Ignore Him?

Wednesday, February 6th, 2013
Q.

I’m desperate to get my teeth whittened, they’re not terrible but would love a brighter, whiter smile. I’ve had past trials and tribulations. During my mid-teens I suffered with bulimia which I think has contributed to why my teeth are sensitive already.I’m now 26 yrs old fit, healthy and recovered. But I’m forever using whitening toothpastes to attempt to achieve that white smile but still not satisfied! After to speaking to my dentist briefly he has advised me 1. To stop using whitenning tooth pastes and 2. That teeth whittening would be a bad option for me as I have sensitive teeth already, would. It be a terrible idea to ignore him?

My Newly Filled Tooth Is Causing Me A Lot Of Pain, What Can I Do To Relieve It

Friday, January 25th, 2013
Q.

Dear whom it may concern,
I went to the dentist like a week ago and they said i need a filling. They drilled and put a dressing on and said if i am in pain i should come back but i haven’t been yet. I brushed on that tooth yesterday and its been hurting really bad. I only brush verwhere else not that part but when i did it seriously hurts. Also, when i drink water it feels nice and am in no more pain. It hurt occasionally but now its constant. Even when I touh it hurts, i think it may be inflamed.
How do i reduce the pain?
Thank you

Is it possible to get root canal treatment on the NHS?

Monday, December 3rd, 2012
Q.

Hello. Please advise the cost for root canal treatment for a lower third molar teeth and how long will it take as a treatment process? I was advised to have root canal treatment done as there is a slight infection/abcess on the gums. Please also advise if you take NHS patients in this instance.
Also, my wife had 2 fillings done and her teeth have become more sensitive. She had tried sensitive toothpastes Sensodyne,Pro-enamel but this doesen’t seem to help. Any recommendations from you would be welcome as a dental professional.  Many Thanks

Why are my composite fillings so sensitive?

Wednesday, September 26th, 2012
Q.

Hi,
Several months ago I had an amalgam filling replaced with a nice new composite one. I noticed that several weeks after the filling was replaced I began to get quite moderate sensitivity with that particular tooth, and was advised to massage the area with a toothpaste designed for sensitive teeth. This provided only minimal relief, so I stopped using it, as I thought it may actually be making thingss worse. I am interested in the enlighten tooth whitening system, however Im pretty scared that I may get some difficulties with that one particular tooth, and be in a lot of pain should I go ahead, What should I expect in terms of the sensitivity aspect of this system. Im really interested in going ahead with it, but not if Im likley to be in a lot of pain. Could you advise please.

Kind regards

Two of my teeth at the front lower jaw have very severly gum recession and are a little loose. Could you please advise me on any treatment. I currently receive free nhs treatment. Any advice would be much appreciated.

My veneer is painful and there is some mild swelling, what can I do?

Wednesday, September 28th, 2011
Q.

Hi, hopefully you can give me some advice with some dental issues I’m having. I had a veneer fitted on a top front tooth back in January, and the dentist who did it managed to damage the tooth to the extent that I needed a root canal treatment done – this was done at the end of March. Since then the pain has improved but is still present; the tooth can be tender to bite down on (but not always) and the front surface is often (but again not always) sensitive/tender to light pressure. Tapping on the tooth is much better than it was previously. I am also having some pain in the gum between the front tooth and the one to the right – my dentist can see nothing wrong with the gum but it is frequently slightly painful and can swell slightly first thing in the morning/on eating. I don’t know if this is likely to be from the tooth or from an internal infection. I appreciate this is a lot to describe and expect you to comment on, but any advice would be appreciated. Because there are no obvious issues my dentist does not seem in a hurry to try to fix anything, but these issues are now having an effect on my mental health.
Thanks

What is the best option for whitening my discoloured, sensitive teeth?

Monday, June 6th, 2011
Q.

Dear Doctor,

I have discolored teeth and would like to have this corrected. I have already tried the more widely available teeth whitening strips but my teeth became very sensitive soon after so I had to stop using them. I also developed a very thin, white vertical line down one of my front teeth and thought that the enamel had been damaged by the strips.

I feel from this experience that a professional laser whitening system would not suit me. I am reluctant to get veneers because I feel it is too invasive to natural teeth.

I have heard of cosmetic bonding and was wondering if this was an option to whiten teeth. Some sources say that bonding can only be used to correct smaller stains, but some suggest that it can be used to whiten the entire tooth.

Please could you tell me if cosmetic bonding is suitable for tooth whitening, Thank You.

Should I have a crown fitted even though I have some discomfort in that tooth?

Tuesday, May 31st, 2011
Q.

Dear Dr , I have recently been advised by my dentist that I require a crown fitted on one of my back teeth, the tooth has already had a root filling about 9/10 years ago, I cannot recall ever having problems with the root filling but upon changing my dentist they have noticed that my root filling is actually broken at the bottom of one side (if that makes sense) this tooh was re filled and I have had discomfort in the area since the filling, they have advised that I should still go ahead with the crown, I am however concerned that after having the crown fitted the root breakage could give me trouble which could possibly lead to extra root work and another crown being required… which would be the best way forward in your opinion !!

I have damaged my tooth a while ago and it is still sensitive, can I get brace treatment?

Thursday, May 12th, 2011
Q.

Hi I would like to ask your advice on my up and coming orthodontic treatment which is to correct my underbite. The problem is that I recently suffered trauma to my teeth which subsequently left my central incisor loose.
I am scheduled for the fitting procedure in May which will be a year on from the trauma took place.
My tooth is still sensitive and tender and I am anxious that it is to soon to have braces fitted. I am afraid the tooth will die.
The orthodontist has not taken any individual x-rays and has told me if the tooth is going to die it will die anyway.
What is your opinion on my situation?
