I Don’t Know What To Do Now That My Root Canal Treatment Has Failed. Should I Opt For A Dental Implant?

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2014
Q.

I had root canal treatment on one of my back teeth about 8 years ago and it’s now failed. I now need to consider whether to go for a re-root, or to have the tooth out and get an implant. I’m struggling with what to do. The cost of the implant my dentist has advised me it will be in the region of £2.5k and a re-root, which may not have a great success rate for a long period, will be around £1300 with new crown etc. In your experience, is it better to go for an implant? Are there any other alternatives? Also, in the past, I’ve had a lot of work done to my teeth – should I be looking at dental insurance plans now, as I’ve spent £1000’s in the last 10 years.

My Overlapping Teeth Are Affecting My Confidence At Work, And Struggle To Pay For Finance. Can You Guide Me?

Thursday, August 29th, 2013
Q.

Hi and hello Dr Moore. I have overlapping teeth at the front on my top row, I have no confidence and cannot smile when on pictures or out with friends. I have been to many consultations and the price of veneers and root canal just seems to go up and up as I work as a pharmacy dispenser I have to pay for all my treatment. I do attend my dentist for check-ups and so on and I have tried finance also but I was not accepted due to having no credit. Is there any other payment plans by the NHS or could I get any help at all? I can’t wait any longer as my teeth depress me and sometimes I don’t even want to leave the house but I have to for work. Can you guide me please as to what to do? Thank you very much and Kind regards.

I am in the midst of root canal treatment, should it be hurting this much?

Thursday, February 24th, 2011
Q.

I’m in the middle of Root Canal treatment on two of my larger teeth near the back (one on each side). I have had no pain from the first one I had done 2 weeks ago but the one I had done 4 days ago is aching when I bite down. Is this normal? (this one has had some rods drilled in whereas the other one has only been drilled out, nerves removed and temporarily packed.

I just wanted to know if it was normal to feel more pain when the rods have been put in place.

The work is being completed on both of the teeth in 4 days.

Many thanks.

How long does it take for the pain to subside following a root canal?

Wednesday, November 17th, 2010
Q.
Hi, I have just recently had root canal treatment on 2 molars (one top right and one bottom right). I was experiencing toothache and my dentist identified abscesses on Xray. However, since the root canal treatment I have been in as much pain as before. It is an intense pain that can only be allievated with painkillers (brufen and co-codamol). The root treatment was completed 2 weeks ago but my dentist said the treatment was successful and it can take 6 weeks for the teeth to settle down. However, I am concerned that I am still in this much pain. Is this normal? Also, may there be any underlying reason for why I am getting numerous dental abscesses at one time? Many thanks.,
