I can feel a pulse around my crowned tooth and gums. Can you advise?

Wednesday, March 20th, 2013
Q.

I have a crown that is 5yrs old… recently have had uncomfortable feeling around the tooth. Its not really painful but can feel a pulse around the tooth and gums. Seen dentist and had x ray… said it was just that I am grinding and bite needed adjusting. had teeth cleaned and polished and was on anti biotics incase of infection. but still feels uncomfortable… can you help please

There is not enough pain to be that worried but cannot be right that I can feel pulse all the time. There is no or very little bleeding around the tooth, but when I tap the crown, it does feel uncomfortable, but not excessively painful.

I have 3 crowns all together on left side upper mouth, also have 1 same side lower mouth.

thanks

Painful root canal experience lead to partial upper dentures which wobble and cause discomfort.

Friday, February 15th, 2013
Q.

Hi I hope you can help me with my problem. After a very painful experience of a root canal, i ended up loosing two teeth and have had partial upper dentures made. I have just recieved my new partial upper denture ( two teeth attatched ). This is the second set made as the first was so bad, I find that they wobble up and down each side. when i bite one side goes up the other down, visa versa. I tried to eat with them and the food just lodged behind one of the teeth. It was very nasty. Should i go back as i dont believe they fit correctly and its causing me a lot of discomfort.

Do you think that I have gum bacteria?

Monday, January 21st, 2013
Q.

Six years ago I lost a good front tooth when a dentist accidentally split it when drilling through a veneer to replace it. I then had to have a bridge to close the gap, using my other front tooth as one of the anchors. At the time
This tooth had a small side filling and a sound root canal which had been done some 15 years earlier. The bridge cost me a lot of money to get a natural look and get the speech right. Now I am currently experiencing discomfort from this anchor tooth when biting or pushing on the top side of the bridged tooth near the gum line. There has been a
Some inflammation of the gum around this tooth for some time which I have been trying to control recently with a water pic. The dentist xrayed the tooth and there is nothing showing, there is no sign of abscess and the root canal seems sound. However the tooth itself cannot be seen for decay due to the metal plate on the back of the bridge. The dentist has given me metronidazole to see if it may be gum bacteria, but the prognosis beyond this is disturbing as he told me of other options available. He thinks I could have another root canal through the back of the bridge or remove the bridge to see the state of the tooth – either way there is a big risk of loosing this anchor tooth due to the trauma. If this were to happen how could I cosmetically reinstate the front teeth and would there be a natural looking temporary solution be available in the meantime that not only looks natural but does affect speech. Do you think the antibiotic may work to resolve such a issue?.

What Is The Cost Of Having An Implant?

Friday, January 18th, 2013
Q.

Hi, after having root canal in my eye tooth, a year later I got an infection in the guu, after numerous anti-biotics my dentist referred me to the hospital to have the tooth removed and a false one on a plate put in. I was very upset as I did not want to have a plate. On visiting the hospital they said they could try and save the tooth by splitting the gum open to rid the infection. I had this procedure last August. Unfortunately the infection is back as my gum is turning black around the tooth again, with discomfort and a nasty taste. I was wondering if you could advise me of the cost of having the tooth removed replaced by a screw in one. Regards

What Should I Do After My Tooth Is Removed?

Friday, January 18th, 2013
Q.

I will be extracting a root canal tooth which is a pre-molar on my upper right arch. The tooth directly in front of it is an implant. I’ve been told that my options for tooth replacement are limited because of the implant. It was suggested that I just leave a gap there. (I do not want to get another implant).
Could you please advise me of my options for filling in the gap after my extraction.
Thank you.

Is my root canal treatment a success or is there going to be an infection?

Friday, January 4th, 2013
Q.

Hi, I had a deep filling done on my lower right second molar. It caused problems so my dentist advised a root canal. She couldnt get all the way to the tips of the roots and said she couldnt promise it wouldnt get infected. She said wait 3 months to see if it settles and then if it does i can have a crown.
This was done about 4 weeks ago and i still get pain but it has got better. I avoid eating on it and i do give it the odd test now and again and it doesnt hurt to eat on it. I suppose my question is I’m only in need of taking pain killers say everyother day and only at the end of the day. is this good at this stage? if i do get an infection is this a failed root canal? im so nervous im going to loose the tooth.

For my painful third molar should I get the tooth removed or get a crown?

Friday, December 21st, 2012
Q.

Dear Respected Dr Safeer Butt,

I am in immense pain and was very lucky to come across your highly informative, very caring and educating article/ web page.

I am by no means a person who knows teeth or their issues. I am almost 45 years old , diabetic for 10+ years. and have taken just modest care of my teeth. But I was blessed with a simple dietary style and a good mother who breast fed me ( I have heard and believe that breast feeding does provide good teeth and good development of bones and muscles in mouth)

I go to doctors and dentists regularly, I get regular cleaning / scaling and dental exams, since I am a disabled person , I get basic dental coverage .
In June and July 2012 , I had lot of dental issues , dentist did procedure , fillings, but now ever since June I have unbearable sensitivity .

Now I am out , of my country, I am with no dental coverage, all of a sudden I am in unbearable pain, and I can clearly see that my third molar from upper right is aching, feeling broken, tender, in burning pain, and loose
What should I do, If I approach a dentist , here , while I am out of US , should I get the tooth out , should I get a crown, is there any thing that a very very proficient and concerned dental surgeon like you would advice. should I pass the time by using pain killers till I get back,

I would very anxiously wait for your help and feed back

Thanking You

Will my root treated tooth discolour and how can I prevent this?

Thursday, November 29th, 2012
Q.

Hi Andrew,

I had a white filing in a tooth many years ago, i am not sure what the official tooth is called but it is my first big tooth in my upper right arch. My dentist has told me that it has leaked and now i need root treatment (I am sure they talked about removing the root). I am okey with this, well as ok as anyone is about dental treatment. My issue is from a cosmetic perspective. Is there a cosmetic procedure that will keep my tooth white and looking the same as i have heard that a tooth can discolor after root treatment. is there anything else that i should be thinking about or asking about to keep my tooth as healthy and looking as well as can be?

Thanks

Would it be possible to have a dental bridge?

Friday, November 9th, 2012
Q.

Hi,

I had my second molar tooth extracted last year. My dentist told me I would have to wait a year before I would be able to have a replacement tooth fitted. I am enquiring about bridges as I really want one fitted because I am worried my teeth might start to separate and I also have difficulty eating on that side of my mouth. I have researched a bit into bridges, but only the third molar tooth next to the gap is healthy, the first molar has a root canal and large filling in place. Is it still possible to have a bridge fitted? I don’t really want implant surgery because I don’t like the idea of nerve damage and dentures sound horrible.

Thanks for any help and advice that you can offer me and I am looking forward to your reply.
