Hi. I have being in agony over the past few days. I have taken ibuprofen but nothing is taking the pain away. I’m not sleeping at all because I’m in constant pain. I find that drinking very cold water helps for like 10 seconds. I went to the dentist today and had x-rays, it showed decay close in a nerve under my filling, so she took off the filling and put on a sort of dressing. However I am still in agony, what can I do?

What Can I Do to Stop My Dental Pain?
Friday, April 10th, 2015Why Am I Still Experiencing Pain After Root Canal Treatment?
Wednesday, March 4th, 2015In December 2014 I had a root canal post and core and then a metal/porcelain crown put on my lower “eye” tooth. It has been overly sensitive since then. I went back to my dentist who x-rayed it and could not find what is causing the pain at all. I am at my wit’s end with this whole thing at the cost of almost $2000. Any reason why I should still have pain of any kind? I feel pain when I touch or rub the tooth and it is painful to floss around and in between the crown and the tooth next to it. I also have a bad odour sometimes when I floss around this area. I am vigorous when flossing because I feel something is getting stuck there. Overall I do not think this was a good cap job. What are my options?
I Had A Crown Fitted Two Weeks Ago. It’s Started Throbbing And Feels Sensitive. Is This Indicative Of Dental Infection?
Thursday, August 21st, 2014Hello Dr Hughes. Approximately a week ago I had a crown fitted. At first it felt heavy, but I thought that was normal and it would settle down. Two days ago the crown started to hurt and felt sensitive to touch. Furthermore, biting on it is out of the question due to the pain. There is also an intermittent throbbing sensation. I have taken pain killers and that has helped. Do you think it’s possible the throbbing sensation is indicative of infection? I need some advice regarding this. Thank you for your time.
Hello Mark. I Don’t Know Whether To Have Root Canal Treatment Or Not. Can You Advise Me?
Friday, April 11th, 2014Hello. I have a badly decayed molar in my mouth. It is on the right side of my mouth on top; second to the last. I went to my dentist last year in October. He filled the tooth as much as he can. However, as instructed only a temporary fix until my insurance “kicked” in. He said it was badly infected at the time. It also had a huge hole from a bad filling and a cavity. He told me to get a root canal and to put a cap on it, If I choose to pull it, not advised, then all my teeth would eventually shift. I don’t have a clue what to do, either pull it or have a root canal? I have read the pros and cons for root canals. Please advise. Financially I can’t afford a root canal.
The Temporary Cement For My Crown Is Causing Me Unbelievable Pain. Should I Keep The Crown?
Thursday, December 19th, 2013 Hi, I had a crown fitted about 6 years ago but it was fitted with temporary cement, the nature of which has not been recorded by my old UK dentist.
It’s now causing me unbelievable pain and swelling and it needs to come out. Only thing is, I would like to keep the crown as it was expensive but need to dissolve the cement and and cap the nerve which I can only guess wasn’t done at the time. I have had to adjust my speech thanks to the incompetence of the dentist and my ill fitted front tooth.
Living in France makes it tricky to get all this done but wondered if you had any advice for me? Can I keep the old crown or shall I just rip it out and get another one or is there an easier, quicker and cheaper solution?
Any help gratefully received.
Is there ever a need to place an amalgam filling in the lingual fossa of a later incisor which is a pontic?
Thursday, December 6th, 2012Is there ever a need to place an amalgam filling in the lingual fossa of a later incisor which is a pontic because this was done for me by my dentist when I complained of pain in that area?
Also I was told by another dentist that i would have to remove my bridge to get to the root of my pain problem in the area of my bridge as nothing came up on the x-ray. If I was to have my bridge removed, considering my abutment teeth on either side have had enamel removed in preparation for my first bridge, would it be possible to use them for anchoring teeth if a new bridge was to be placed?
Thank you in advance for your help. It is highly appreciated.
I didn’t take care of my oral health following root canal treatment, I’m scared of losing my teeth. Please help!
Thursday, December 6th, 2012Hi Doctor Moore, I am 28 years old. i have more 4 root canals in my mouth and covered by crowns. i was not very careful about my oral health but now i have been doing flossing, cleaning properly since last year. my front teeth have not undergone any treatment yet. but a gap is generating day by day between these teeth and it looks unaesthetic. is due to flossing? i am not too old to loose my teeth. there is a gum shrinkage in these teeth. in spite of all my measures of brushing, flossing etc , there is no positivism. What should i do? i want to save my front teeth at least to preserve my smile. please help.
Would MAC veneers be an option for my stained teeth?
Wednesday, September 26th, 2012Hello Mark,
I would be very grateful for your advice.
I currently have ceramic pressed veneers on my two upper front teeth. I injured myself when I was young which deadened one of the front teeth and I had root canal treatment on it. It is grey in colour. I had veneers fitted to my two front teeth to get an even finish, and when the second tooth was prepped for the veneer it was found to be stained quite badly yellow. I’ve had these veneers for about two years and I think they look much better than no veneers at all, but wondered if there might be a better option for me.
I have previously been advised that crowns would be the next step, but I would prefer veneers if possible.
Do you think that MAC veneers would be an option, and if so could they be placed on just my two front teeth to conceal the grey/yellow discolouration and would they be able to blend in with my remaining teeth?
Your help is much appreciated.
