What treatment should I go with for correcting the alignment of my teeth?

Monday, March 14th, 2011
Q.

I have been unhappy with my teeth for a number of years. Aged 16 I had upper “2”s crowned as they were being pushed back by the “3”s . Unfortunately I was never given orthodontics as an option.

Over the years (I am now 46) the colour of my natural teeth has changed, the movement continued and now the right 1 and 2 are pushed back the 3s look too large and the whole smile is unsightly.

A local dentist has suggested crowning 1, 2 and 3 (the 3s are quite long and pointy) and veneers for the 4s and 5s as these are pointing inwards.

My real concern is whether this is going to bring the teeth so far forwards for the 1,2 and 3 (because the 3s are large and will therefore set the outer arc position) that I’ll take on the appearance of the love child of Richard Branson and Janet Street Porter (A look I suspect you are rarely asked for).

How much further forwards would you expect teeth to be following crowning which is not intended to bring things forwards but in fact level things out.

Apologies for the lack of correct technical jargon but I imagine you get the picture.

Will the Inman aligner straighten my teeth?

Thursday, March 3rd, 2011
Q.

Dear Dr. Butt,
I would like your advice. I wore braces for 2 years 6 years ago, and I stopped wearing my retainers. Because of this, my beautiful straight teeth gave way slightly to the problem I had before braces.

My top 2 front teeth have protruded out again, a bit like a rabbit, and the 2 incisors on either side of them have moved forward a bit too (all on the top jaw). I have had consultations from orthodontists and I am asking you as well.

Will the Inman Aligner align my top 2 teeth with the rest of my top teeth giving me a straight top jaw again? Will it make my teeth straight again?

Kind regards,

Is a brace the best option for protruding teeth?

Wednesday, March 2nd, 2011
Q.

my teeth are genually ok, i just have concern that the two front teeth are beginning to stick out. i had a brace on in my early teens, is there anything else you could recommand rather than a brace – as its looking to be rather expensive, considering the risk they may move again in the future. thank you
