Can I Get Veneers on the NHS Through a Private Dentist?

Monday, April 20th, 2015
Q.

My teeth are in quite a state. They are discoloured, one is chipped, and I was also advised I have too many teeth in my mouth. Stemming from a mental health reason, I have eaten sweets over the years and now I am paying the price. I don’t apply for jobs that require customer contact as I have a great fear that people are looking at my teeth, which makes me so depressed. I also never smile for the same reason. As I am a full time carer I will never have the money for the treatment. I was advised by my last dentist to get veneers. My question is can I get veneers on the NHS done through a private dentist? Thank you.

Where Can I Go for Orthodontic Treatment?

Wednesday, January 21st, 2015
Q.

Hello. I started to visit a dentist about year and a half ago and was told I had to go into hospital to have a tooth out before starting orthodontic treatment. Since I had this tooth removed, I’ve got no further with starting treatment and have just been pushed from pillar to post, visiting 3-4 different dentists and paying for consultations and x-rays but getting no further. I’m 44 years old and don’t want go leave it too late. I really hope you can help me or advise me about where I can go. It’s been quite upsetting time as i feel no one wants too help me. I’ve got a big family wedding in two and a half years time, so I would really like to start treatment as soon as possible. Thank you.

How Much Would It Cost Me To Get My Discoloured Bridge Replaced?

Thursday, March 6th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Moore. I have had a bridge for over 20 years, and it covers my 6 top front teeth. I’ve always thought they looked too big and false looking and now they are starting to look a bit discoloured which isn’t ideal. I am looking at getting them replaced. Would this be possible after so many years and what would be the cost of doing this? My own dentist always says there is no point, after all I’ve put up with them for so long but I am just not happy with them and I would like some advice from you if that could be at all possible. Thank you for taking the time.

My Mother Is In Agony After Her Treatment Abroad, Where Can I Go For Help?

Friday, June 28th, 2013
Q.

Hi Mark,
I wanted to get some advice regarding some work done to my mothers teeth.

Last summer she went abroad and had 3 implants and 6 crowns. Since coming back 4 of the crowns fell out (botched up job) She is in constant agony and is constantly crying because the crowns where not done correctly, her bottom tooth now has began to crack and chip off because the top crowns are not fitted correctly (huge gaps in between)

Going back is not and option and the NHS doesn’t cover corrective surgery (they’ve been no help regarding this). Could you please advice us on where we could go from here.

Desperately need help
Thanks

My Daughter’s Teeth Are Discoloured, Could You Advise Me On Whitening Options?

Friday, May 31st, 2013
Q.

Hi, My daughter is 14 years old and since her adult teeth came through they have flaws in them and lighter patches, particularly the front teeth both top and bottom. We have been told by our local dentist that this could be due to how she was developing in the womb. She is a Type 1 diabetic. As with other people who have written on this site it does affect her confidence and tries not to smile showing her teeth, as a developing young woman it’s starting to upset her much more and has been the subject of adverse comments at school. I understand that teeth whitening is not available on the NHS. The flaws seem to be in her teeth rather than staining. Are there any options at her age to make her teeth whiter. Advice much appreciated.

How Much Is It To Go Private For My Veneers Or Will The NHS Do Them?

Thursday, May 23rd, 2013
Q.

Hi, I’m 23 and have a big gap between my front two teeth and then two very small teeth either side, I also have stains (from when I was born) on my front teeth. I am very aware of my teeth and how they look. It knocks my confidence and soemtimes I can get quite down about their appearance which obviously impacts on how I act with people and could potentially be limiting me. I went to my NHS dentist but my dentist won’t give me veneers as he says there is nothing medically wrong with my teeth, I don’t have any fillings. How much is it to go private or can I get this treatment on the NHS? Thank you for your help.

Why Do I Keep Losing Teeth?

Friday, April 26th, 2013
Q.

After leaving my private dentist years ago i went back to nhs dentist in my area. Everything i visit i end up loosing a tooth x 2 now and i feel they are not carrying out the necessary work until it is too late, I’m fed up asking for them to complete all the work and have even pre booked 5 appointments. I’m sick to death now as mouth is starting to fall apart. I have lost two teeth and looks like a third is going to have come out.  I’m totally down in the dumps and this has taken away my confidence in a big way, even though the teeth aren’t front facing i feel awful and avoid smiling as i appear to have a gaping black hole when I smile .. its looks dreadful and considering i had such a lovely smile i feel my teeth are simply not looked after when visiting . Never do they polish or clean them. just seems to big issues like teeth removal or a cap etc.

what do I do ?

My Teeth Are In Bad Shape As I Have Bruxism, What Private Treatments Would Be Best?

Thursday, March 28th, 2013
Q.

Good evening,

I struggle with bruxism, and have severely worn down my teeth over the years, resulting in cracks, numerous fillings and lots of discolouration. This wasn’t helped by the phobia I had for around fifteen years (but which is now considerably reduced) meaning I didn’t go to a dentist unless I was in pain.

I still grind my teeth in my sleep, although I wear a rubber mouthguard at night as instructed by my last dentist.

I hide my teeth when I smile, because they are so worn, cracked and mis-shapen. I’ve always had NHS dentists, who have said there’s no point in capping or adding veneers to my teeth as I’ll break them so quickly. I’m inclined to agree!

Is there a treatment I could consider that might actually work? I’m more than happy to go private now. I’m 32 and would like to be able to smile openly for the first time.

Kind regards.

Pain whilst wearing dentures due to removal of two front teeth taken out

Thursday, February 14th, 2013
Q.

Dr Moore please can you help me? I’ve had my two top teeth taken out and have had dentures put in. on my dentures i have seven teeth and when i wear my dentures and am unable to swallow and its making me feel sick because i have bells palsy when it makes me feel sick i do get pain in my face because of the bells palsy. Please can you inform me what’s the best option available to me and should do because when i get pain in my face its unbearable. Could you inform me of how much would it be to have tooth implants for the teeth I currently have missing. I’m only 23 years of age and my job will be finishing in 26 days of the current 6 months scheme I am involved in. Do you believe the NHS would be able to help me pay for the implants or reduce the cost for me ?

I have lost a lot of the enamel on my teeth, do I need dental implants?

Wednesday, July 4th, 2012
Q.

Hi my teeth have lost loads of enamel on my teeth. i have several crowns due to this and bonding on the majority of my back teeth which comes away several times a year which they replace. i have looked at dental implants but would like to know a little more to see if this procedure is for me. I saw an advert about where you can have it done in a day but cannot find any details about it. i pay privately for my dental treatment each month. but they are reluctant to do any thing else for me. i have i think two 3-4 crown on the back teeth and an awaiting a further one and my front top four are crowned, the front ones are very old now.
