Is it normal to have severe pain following having a crown fitted?

Wednesday, November 24th, 2010
Q.

Hi,
I had a crown fitted (the first one I have had done) at the back of my mouth last week and it has been really sore since it was done. My dentist said that it may be a bit sensitive for a while but this is really sore – it wakes me up at night! I have been taking lots of painkillers, which I don’t like to do but it is so sore I don’t really have an option. I’d just like to know if this is normal? – there is no swelling or anything and it really doesn’t look like there is anything wrong. Should I leave it a week or so to see if it settles down or is this not normal!?

How long does it take for the pain to subside following a root canal?

Wednesday, November 17th, 2010
Q.
Hi, I have just recently had root canal treatment on 2 molars (one top right and one bottom right). I was experiencing toothache and my dentist identified abscesses on Xray. However, since the root canal treatment I have been in as much pain as before. It is an intense pain that can only be allievated with painkillers (brufen and co-codamol). The root treatment was completed 2 weeks ago but my dentist said the treatment was successful and it can take 6 weeks for the teeth to settle down. However, I am concerned that I am still in this much pain. Is this normal? Also, may there be any underlying reason for why I am getting numerous dental abscesses at one time? Many thanks.,

I am due to have a crown fitted but I am suffering from pain in the tooth nerve. Should I have root canal treatment?

Monday, August 16th, 2010
Q.
One of my back teeth has recently git damaged and I was told by my dentist that I would need a crown. He sprayed the back tooth to see if the nerve was still active, and I nearly hit the roof as it was so painful, my dentist said he had to do that to see if the nerve was ok. My dentist has ground down the tooth ready for the crown, and Im due to have the crown fitted on Friday, but since yesterday I have had cronic pain around that tooth, it feels very nervy and painful, should I have had a root canal? and will it be ok to just add a crown over the nerve? Id hate to have a crown fitted and then suffer with this pain. Thanks,

Should I have a dental implant or a cantilever bridge?

Thursday, May 27th, 2010
Q.
I have had a fixed bridge for about 8 years. However, during a recent check-up my dentist told me that the tooth at or near the end of the bridge has decayed and needs to come out. He has suggested either an implant or a cantilever bridge to replace decayed tooth. The ‘tooth’ is in upper jaw towars back. Is a cantilever bridge strong enough and is it aestethic. Implants sound invasive, painful as well as expensive!,
