My recent fillings are causing me pain, any advice?

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010
Q.
Hello, Two/three weeks ago I had three fillings put in, however since then I have had really sensitive teeth (just on the teeth that the fillings went in to). I went back to my dentist and she said they were a little to high and filed them down. But this hasn’t seem to work and I can’t even bite on the teeth as it hurts so much, It also causes me pain when I have cold or hot drinks. Is there something wrong with the fillings? Should I visit another dentist for advice. Many thanks for your advice in advance.

Q.
Hi. I had a molar crown fitted last week. I am now suffereing from tooth ache, mostly at night. My teeth around the crown feel “tight”, a bit like the crown is too big and is pushing my other teeth. Is this normal and will the pain ease in time?,

Do I have my tooth extracted OR the root canal treatment?

Monday, April 12th, 2010
Q.
My dentist has given me the option of root canal treatment or extraction on a tooth, lower jaw, back right. The tooth is already heavily filled with amalgam. I am a very nervous patient (terrified more like). Is it worth the pain, possible side effects and cost of root canal treatment for an already heavily ‘filled’ tooth?,

Is it true that it takes up to a year for the root canal treatment pain to settle?

Friday, April 2nd, 2010
Q.
I had root canal treatment last December but am still experiencing pain which runs along upper gum towards my ear and down to lower gum. The most recent episode has lasted for two days but previous to that it usually disappeared after a few hours. My dentist says that this is normal and that it can take up to a year to settle. Is this the case? Because if so I dont know if I can put up with it.,

No sign of an abscess but there is bad pain please help!

Friday, March 26th, 2010
Q.
My 13 y/o son had a broken front tooth repaired in May w/ a veneer placed. For the past 2 days, he has severe pain above the tooth but no notable signs of abscess. This morning he woke up and his front lip is mildly swollen. The pain increases at night with Advil only mildly helping. What do you think is going on and what are his options. He sees the Dentist tomorrow morning. Thanks!!!,

My girlfriends adult teeth are still not through at the age of 22, please help!

Thursday, March 25th, 2010
Q.
Hi Rob, This is about my girlfriend. She is 22 1/2 and has no adult teeth although she understands they are in there waiting to erupt. Her baby teeth are gradually eroding and cause her regular pain. She is terrified of all things medical, doctors and dentists especially needles, and has steadfastly refused to allow me to take her for treatment. However, during the last couple of days she has suffered from what we think is an abcess on her lower right jaw which is about 3 teeth long and as high as the tooth. The pain from this appears to be persuading her to consider doing something about it. She is a really attractive girl apart from her teeth and as a result she never smiles with her mouth showing her teeth. This fear is a long standing fear and is genuine. I seem to have now convinced her (with the aid of the pain) to at least have a consultation to establish the options. She tells me that in the past dentists have expressed interest in her condition since it is so rare. If you feel up to a challenge I will give it my best shot to support you and her. .,

Lower right teeth pain, any advice?

Friday, March 19th, 2010
Q.
Hi there, I have recently been experiencing alot of pain coming from my lower right teeth, I went to dentist who said it could be exposed dentin and to use sensodene and leave it on before I go to sleep. However the tooth is now painful when I bite on it too, can this happen when dentin is exposed or is it possible this is something different? Thank-you for your time.,
