What can i do about my teeth being so close together?

Thursday, January 6th, 2011
Q.

Hi Mark. I chipped my front teeth in an accident when I was younger and to make the edges look cleaner, a dentist filed around 3mm off the width of the front two teeth instead of bonding the damage. However, I’m older now and the gaps in my teeth he made closed in time but I am still not happy with my smile. The front teeth look too narrow now than what they originally were and as the roots are closer together (because the teeth have moved together and aren’t as wide as they used to be) it is kind of hurting my jaw a bit and I feel like wanting to pull them apart. Are their any options available to get my front teeth back to being slightly wider again? I have a maryland bridge replacing my right canine tooth and gum recession on one of my front teeth (which actually makes it look even narrower!). Will this be an issue? Is it possible that you could get an orthodontist to space the front teeth slightly and then cover the gaps with wider veneers so there is no gap and the teeth are wider again or would you have to have more than 2 veneers? Its only the two top fronts I have a problem with, the rest of the mouth is fine!

Why is my tooth so painful?

Friday, September 3rd, 2010
Q.
Hi Dr Solanki, I have just had a front crown re-fitted (upper right tooth next to my front tooth). I usually eat on my left but I lost small part of filling (very old one) and wanted it replacing with white filling. My dentist (excellent) did not want to do it because he said could cause problems but I insisted and true enough, Ive got problems that I cannot eat left side because that tooth now sensitive. Hence now eat right side and crown came loose. No pain at all, had it re-fitted (last Thursday) Had little settling in pain but last 2 days after going to bed I am woken up by intense pain from this crown, so much so I cannot touch the tooth. Have been given antibiotics. I noticed within 3 or 4 hours of being up the pain died down. I am currently on nights. I worked last night with no pain (just very tired lack of sleep) Came home this morning went to bed 07.45. Got up 10.30 for toilet, No pain. Straight back to sleep and was woken with intense pain by 14.15. I could not touch the tooth. I have been up now 2 1/2 hours. I lay on the settee but pain bad so I did few job round the house and pain is subsiding and I can touch the tooth. I go back to my dentist on Fri morning but I just wondered what do you think is happening. This pain seems to occur when I have been lay down. Thank for your time in answering my question.

I’m concerned that more dental work will make my sore nerve even worse, what do you suggest?

Q.
Lat Dec, I had 2 deep fillings in lower back teeth. since then one tooth hasn’t settled, still nervy, and have tingling along face lower lip and chin that side. Dentist says teeth are fine and don’t need anymore work done. Last injection given hit nerve and sent electric shock down my face. I have app to take tooth out this week, to see if it eleviates nerve pain and tingling, but concerned tnat more work to teeth may make nerve worse. Under doctor, nearologist but no one can give me an answer. Should I have tooth taken out? Have been offered root canal although not needed but can’t bear thought of more driling on nerve. Please advise. It ‘s been nearly 6 months of this now. Thank you,

Should I have my tooth removed? Or should I wait till the filling settles down?

Thursday, May 6th, 2010
Q.
Hello I need some advise. I had 2 deep fillings done on back teeth RH bottom side of mouth last Dec. Since then I have nerve pain from one tooth and tingling in lower lip chin and face on that side. Been back to dentist who says nothing wrong with teeth. Went back again, he said he could drill out again or do root canal, although not needed ,or take tooth out. I opted for tooth extraction because I couldn’t stand anymore drilling on nerve. The 2nd injection he gave me when doing the 2nd filling hit the nerve and I had electric shock feeling through face. Is is possible that nerve pain and tingling is due to temporary nerve damage? I still haven’t had tooth out because worried about anymore trauma to nerve. I am off to America in 2 weeks for holiday but don’t want to go away not being able to eat/drink properly. Pain/sensations are there all day but go away at night. Should I opt for tooth out or give it more time to see if it all settles down,?Dentist is hesitant to remove tooth now – too close to holiday. Please help. Have lost a lot of weight due to anxiety. Thanks,
