What Can I Do to Stop My Dental Pain?

Friday, April 10th, 2015
Q.

Hi. I have being in agony over the past few days. I have taken ibuprofen but nothing is taking the pain away. I’m not sleeping at all because I’m in constant pain. I find that drinking very cold water helps for like 10 seconds. I went to the dentist today and had x-rays, it showed decay close in a nerve under my filling, so she took off the filling and put on a sort of dressing. However I am still in agony, what can I do?

I Have a Lump in my Mouth and Nerve Pain in my Jaw. What Should I Do?

Thursday, November 27th, 2014
Q.

I am very worried. I have had a nerve pain in my top jaw for around two years now and nothing can stop the pain. It doesn’t affect my teeth when I’m eating or drinking, but it hurts to touch, and on the right side under my nose it feels numb. A lump has been there now for around two months and it is getting bigger to the point that I am now stressed, can’t sleep well and I m not sure if it’s something sinister. Last week, my crown fell out and my dentist cemented it back in for me. I pointed out the lump and he said it’s nothing, but he had an emergency patient to deal with so I felt he wasn’t really looking. I can’t get back to see him until 12th December. However I don’t think that I can last that long and I’m not sure what to do next?
If you could advise please that would be great. Many thanks.

Q.

How much is it to have a wisdom tooth and the tooth next to it removed? I have this problem now and I can’t wait any longer to have it done. My wisdom tooth has come out at an angle and has pushed against my other tooth creating a hole and the nerve is right next to it. Both teeth are infected I am on antibiotics now and it has been 48 hours of me taking the antibiotics it is causing a lot of pain. I can’t eat or sleep and the pain killers don’t help at all I’m finding it hard to work.

Hello Dr Moore. My Teeth Are Ridiculously Sensitive. Which Dental Treatment Can Help Me Instead Of Just Using Toothpastes?

Wednesday, May 7th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr. Moore. My teeth are ridiculously sensitive, I have tried lots of different toothpastes to try and reduce their sensitivity but nothing will offer me relief. It’s getting very frustrating as it’s everything that is slightly cold or hot causes me pain and toothache. I was basically wondering if there was any dental treatment that could help my teeth instead of just using toothpastes and such? Any advice you can offer would be very much appreciated. I look forward to reading your response, Thank you in advance.

I Have Been Having Some Pain In My Temple And My Upper Left Jaw. Is This Caused By A Dental Problem?

Thursday, February 6th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes. I have been having some pain in my temple, my upper left jaw, behind my ear and in addition I’ve been getting a burning sensation in my head. Additionally, when I put on my glasses I can feel a ‘tender’ spot over my ear. When I place a cold pack on the area it feels better but I can definitely feel the cold on the nerve which is highly annoying. My question is more about the burning pain in my head. Can that be generated from the nerve in my tooth? It would be great if you could help me clear this up. Thanks.

I can feel a pulse around my crowned tooth and gums. Can you advise?

Wednesday, March 20th, 2013
Q.

I have a crown that is 5yrs old… recently have had uncomfortable feeling around the tooth. Its not really painful but can feel a pulse around the tooth and gums. Seen dentist and had x ray… said it was just that I am grinding and bite needed adjusting. had teeth cleaned and polished and was on anti biotics incase of infection. but still feels uncomfortable… can you help please

There is not enough pain to be that worried but cannot be right that I can feel pulse all the time. There is no or very little bleeding around the tooth, but when I tap the crown, it does feel uncomfortable, but not excessively painful.

I have 3 crowns all together on left side upper mouth, also have 1 same side lower mouth.

thanks

My daughter has been told that she can’t have braces or veneers-are there really no options for her?

Monday, March 5th, 2012
Q.

My daughter is a professional singer and paranoid abut her teeth as she has a narrow bridge and a front tooth is slightly forward . She had veneers fitted on her front teeth but three years on it has moved again. She consulted a dentist who has told her the dentist who did her teeth has butchered them by filing so much away that a brace would damage the veneers and no new veneers can be fitted as the nerve would be damaged and the tooth die. She is distraught as her smile and mouth are her business. What can she do?

Monday, January 30th, 2012
Q.

I was woken up on friday night, with really sharp throbbing pains in my tooth, molar, which was crowned about 6 months ago, I have been taking painkillers for 2 days but is no good, pain is still there and is strong, do you think i have an infection in my crown?what could this be? I have not had any root treatment for this tooth. I have had another crown on a different tooth, but that has not given me any problems, I havent made an dentist appointment yet should I make one? Thank you for your time doctor

I am in a lot of pain which started with a chipped tooth, what could be the source of pain?

Friday, January 21st, 2011
Q.

I had a front tooth root filling in early Nov. Had been chipped & badly cracked umpteen years ago but earlier this year became tender to pressure. Was/got infected. 5 lots of antibiotics, 1 temp crown [the tooth cracked further], umpteen appts for ‘cleaning’ inside & more pain than I thought I could stand. Then endodontic referral [early Dec], different internal medication, and it did improve slightly but still needed full pain relief [max paracetamol & max ibuprofen daily]. Was advised it might ‘settle down’ … hasn’t. Returned to endo in early Jan, refilled again, again did improved slightly but still very painful to any sort of touch & need regular pain relief and now seems to be getting worse again. Have been told it might be phantom nerve pain and not to have tooth out until seen by neurologist, which could take months on NHS. I think it far more likely infection is still lurking although medication keeps is from forming obvious absess or that root is actually cracked as well & I would get relief from extraction. Gums very sore in area too. What is your opinion please ?
