I Feel A Throbbing Pain Ever Since My Crown Was Put Back In. Do You Have Any Idea Of What The Problem Might Be?

Tuesday, June 10th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes. I’d like your help and advice if it’s not too much bother. My front crown, which is about 8 years old, it fell out and my dentist stuck it back in. From then it hasn’t felt quite right. I am having a throbbing pain in it. Is the nerve still alive when you have a crown put? I am also getting root canal treatment on three molars not had them crowned yet but this hasn’t given me a lot of pain just the normal, after this type of treatment. All the pain is in my front crown. Do you have any idea of what the problem might be? Thank you for your time.

A Had A Bad Slip And Snapped My Teeth. Would It Be Better To Use Cosmetic Bonding Or Veneers To Rebuild My Teeth?

Thursday, May 1st, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark,

I’ve unfortunately slipped on a wet floor last week and landed on my jaw face down and have snapped off a third of both of my front teeth horizontally. There are also some minor cracks in the enamel which go up to the gum line in one tooth. My family’s NHS dentist covered the exposed roots over with a temporary white filling. I’ve got to leave it on for 2 weeks to see if the root decides to die off. He then suggested opting for composite bonding to re-build my teeth. I would really appreciate a second opinion from a cosmetic expert whether this was a sensible approach or whether veneers would be a better investment from the outset. Would the bonding method look okay and match the top half of my teeth? Can it be used to cover the cracks up to my gumline? Can it snap off easily as it’s quite a large area and further damage my existing teeth? Would be great to get your thoughts.

Is It Possible To Cause Serious Nerve Damage With Dental Implants?

Wednesday, October 2nd, 2013
Q.

Kings College London Dental college has warned that dental implants could damage the nerve with serious consequences. What is your opinion on the risk involved in this type of dentistry?

I have one tooth missing and am considering a dental implant however I wish to establish the amount of risk to the nerve in view of this report.

I also would like to have some idea of the cost involved in this kind of treatment. I have already have a full head X-ray by the dentist who extracted my tooth. She said I would not need bone augmentation or sinus lift to her knowledge but she advised me to seek a dentist practising in implants.

Thank you for any information you can supply.

Why Has My Front Tooth Started To Discolour?

Friday, April 26th, 2013
Q.

I recently have a bad fall and injured my face including the mouth area. After several days I have noticed that my Top Front Left Tooth has started to discolour from the gum downwards and looks almost purple in colour. The pain is severe as I have a lot of scar tissue to the underside of my lip and therefore reluctant to see a dentist until the swelling has subsided. I cannot bite down on any food as I find this very uncomfortable and almost painful although there appears to be loss of sensation. Does this mean I have damaged nerves and will the tooth recover. If not what can you suggest on making the tooth white again.I would really appreciate any help that you can give me on this matter as I am really stressed about this and worried that it will get worse.
