What are the options for the replacement of an ill-fitting denture?

Saturday, December 4th, 2010
Q.

I once had alot of crowns fitted on my upper teeth except for 5 teeth at the back which i have still got except their in bad condition,as my crowns have fell out or the stakes have broke the dentist has replaced all my teeth with a denture which is so ill fitted and i just cant eat properly and have no bite even the second denture they have made me is so ill fitting and uncomfortable i am embarrased and will not smie as my smile is so crooked,it was all done on the nhs as im disabled and i could not afford to replace the crowns and the dentist said i have to have the cheapest option which was a denture either that or be gummy my denture has 7 teeth on it and it sits next to the 5 teeth that i have, but i dont want dentures any more i hate having to take them out all the time and im only 54 yrs old is their any hope for me and also what prices are we talking about as im on limited funds as i can not work,is their a way that i could have a little bit of work done at a time and pay at every stage until its all done, sorry for asking you for so much information

Will I be aware of a new bridge?

Monday, November 22nd, 2010
Q.

I need to have a bridge to replace a single front denture that I no longer fits well. My dentist recommends one which is fused to metal bands. This sounds very awkward and uncomfortable – will I be very aware of it ?

A.
No, not if it’s done well.

My lower denture doesn’t fit comfortably. Can I request a new one?

Friday, October 22nd, 2010
Q.
Ten months ago I had a partial lower denture made, my dentist recently had to file the denture to make it more comfortably, now it is too loose and wil not fit properly. I am about to have an upper partial denture made to replace a crown that fell out that can’t be replaced. As an NHS patient can I request a new lower replacement under this course of treatment with an NHS upper banding cost of £198 as this lower denture is now causing a problem,

Are they responsible for correcting my denture repair?

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010
Q.
I recently broke my denture which replaces a front tooth I lost, I took it to my NHS Dentist who I appreciate gladly took a new imprint of my mouth and sent it off for repair under the free NHS Dental repair. However, when it returned and we tried it out it did not fit correctly and is noticably not in line with the surrounding teeth. She advised that nothing could be done as it had been repaired and the only option was for me to have a new denture made. At present I am unable to afford the £200 fee for a new denture and am therefore stuck with an ill fitting denture. I appreciate the repair service is free and am very appreciative of this but surely if the repair is not correct then they should be responsible for correcting the repair? Thanks.
