Could Flossing Be Irritating My Gums Under My Bridge?

Thursday, August 13th, 2015
Q.

I have a bridge and it feels loose up on my gums. The bridge itself is not loose but I feel the sensation that it is. I saw my dentist yesterday and he did an x-ray which confirmed it is not loose but my gums are irritated. He advised rinsing with salt and warm water and also a non-alcohol mouth wash. I have a follow up appointment in 3 weeks. I first noticed this feeling after my normal check up after the hygienist flossed my bridge. I use a waterpik flosser and thought that maybe the flossing with dental floss vs. my normal waterpik irritated my gums. Do you have any suggestions as to why I may be feeling this moving sensation in my gums?

Thank you!

What’s Wrong With My Bridge?

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2015
Q.

Hi. I have a 3 piece bridge on the upper right side. The gum smells awful and my other half complains of the smell. My regular dentist said it looks fine. A water/air floss helps for 1-2 hours. There has been lots of bleeding but it has stopped since using Corsodyl in water floss. Also, I get sort of a suction effect where my cheek can be pulled into the bridge area with a sucking motion. I’m not sure exactly which part. Do you have any thoughts or treatment suggestions? Was a bridge a bad idea? That’s what I’m thinking now. Kind regards.

My Maryland Bridge Has Fallen Out Three Times Recently And I Would Like An Alternative Option?

Tuesday, August 19th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Riten. I currently have a Maryland bridge which needs replacing as it keeps coming loose. This has happened to me on three occasions now and I am not willing to have this bridge cemented back in again. I would much prefer something more permanent than this. What options are available for gaps and missing teeth and what are they likely to cost? I have dental insurance so hopefully this will cover me for any costs. Thank you for listening, I hope to hear from you soon.

My Maryland Bridge Keeps Coming Loose But I’m Reluctant To Go Elsewhere As My Dentist Is Usually Fantastic. What Should I Do?

Thursday, March 27th, 2014
Q.

Dear Dr Hughes. I have had a Maryland bridge (1) wing only fitted recently, I visited the dentist the day after I had it in as the bridge came out, this was then re-bonded. This lasted 2 days before it again came loose, the bridge was again refitted. It’s now loose again. The dentist can’t understand what’s gone wrong? He’s used to another type of adhesive? I need to ring again tomorrow. What should I do? I’m fed up and I have sore teeth, with all the bonding being taken on/off.  He is normally a fantastic dentist? Thank you in advance.

How Much Would A New Bridge Cost From A Private Dentist?

Friday, May 10th, 2013
Q.

I have had a bridge made and fitted on the NHS for my two bottom front teeth, I am not happy with it at all. The false teeth are “taller” than my own teeth, a different colour, keep coming loose ( have to keep going back to the dentist to have it re- cemented which costs me £18 each time) gap at the bottom which has left me with a lisp that is getting worse. In the last six months the dentist has put a white filling between my two front teeth as I have a gap on three occasions and they have all fallen out within two days. The previous white filling I had for about three to four years. I would appreciate a quote for a bridge for my two bottom front teeth and having a white filling to fill the gap in my two front top teeth. As a result of these issues I have gone from a confident outgoing person to a recluse.

Kind Regards.
