I had a new porcelain crown fitted to my front tooth 2 years ago, a couple of days ago part of it chipped off, been to dentist and have been told I have a severe infection in the root that the steel post attached to my crown and the whole thing needs to be extracted! I’m devastated because I am terrified of dentists, is this the only solution? They have said I will need a false denture. Surely there is another method? Whilst I am not vain I hate the thought of a denture with 1 front tooth just yet, I have no pain what so ever, no problems with it before apart from this tiny piece that as broken off which makes 1 of my front teeth a little rough and rubbing on my bottom lip, but they told me if I don’t have it done now I will end up with a bad abscess which will result in the same thing happening but obviously I will suffer more pain.

Monday, September 30th, 2013Hello Dr Marcus, I have a toothache on my right side coming from one of the lower back teeth (I’m sorry, I don’t know the proper name) and there is a little swelling underneath my jaw bone on the same side. I believe I had the same problem a few months ago but without the swelling, and the pain went away by itself. It feels like the pain tends to get more intense when I’m lying down or when I stand up from lying down, I was really hoping you could help me try and diagnose this problem?

Monday, September 9th, 2013Hello Dr Hughes, I want to tell you about a number of problems I have over my latest visit to my local dentist. I have had all my old fillings re-done and I had three crowned teeth that were pulled and infected for, I’m not sure how long, probably over two years and have been on a lot of antibiotics and every time the antibiotics are gone this terrible smell comes back. The last crowned tooth was pulled three weeks ago and I still have the infected/decay smell. Why is this? Could my gums be infected in that area or is it the jaw bone? I went to the dentist yesterday thinking I might still have an infected tooth and he said no and went as far as to give me a letter stating my dental health is fine!

Friday, August 23rd, 2013Hi, I need help. I smashed three of my top front teeth out 15 years ago when I was 15, now I am older I am self conscious about the way they look in the mirror. I had a root canal done which was very painful and then I chipped two of them not long after the root canal treatment. Now I think they are a horrid colour and look mouldy. I brush, rinse, and floss every day and try to take as best of care of my teeth the best I can. Do you have any suggestions on what my options are these days? I was thinking that should I get them pulled out and replaced them with false ones. I also get a horrid taste in my mouth. Please help I am at my wits end! Thanks for your time, I await your answer.
Will My Sensitivity To Gluten Impact Upon The Success Rates Of Dental Implant Treatment?
Thursday, June 13th, 2013Hi Doctor Moore, I am scheduled for a titanium implant. The doctor I see for gluten sensitivity strongly advises against it based on her own experience and research about after effects, e.g., infection and electrical conductivity with old metal fillings. She had the implant removed as it seriously affected her health and had a Maryland bridge put in place. The tooth I need replaced is the second right of front which I am concerned would look grey with the metal attachments. However, my three remaining front teeth are crowns as it is. What is your position on this issue? Is there a link between gluten sensitivity and dental implant success? Do you think this should be an issue I may have to take up with my own dentist? I’m not sure what to think about receiving the treatment now…Thank you for your help.
Will The Pain From My Cracked Tooth Become Unbearable?

I had some work done on my right front tooth 2-3 years ago.
After that work I noticed a slight pain in that tooth.
The last week that pain has gotten worse.
I’m worried cause today is the Queens birthday long weekend and my dentist is closed.
Is this pain going to get unbearable?
I did notice that I have a cracked bottom right tooth which when I bite hard hits my right tooth.
I go to the gym and when I work out I tend to bite hard. So I don’t know whether it is something I am doing, grinding or pressuring the tooth too much or whatever. Tooth pain is horrendous though and I’d like to avoid it as much as I possibly can!
Do I Need A Bigger Bridge?
Tuesday, April 2nd, 2013I have a bridge with the front tooth missing therefore other front tooth and tooth at side of missing one being the bridge. my bridge has become loose and I have recently discovered that I have an infection in the other front tooth,i have been told i need a bigger bridge of 6 teeth which would include the 2 molars, my question is, is it necessary to grind down that amount of good teeth? The dentist said it would be because of the weight of the teeth. i have also been quoted 3,200 is this a reasonable price or should I look for another opinion?
Lack of explanation of intense pain in tooth with root canal
Thursday, February 14th, 2013I had a root canal on tooth #19 about a month ago. I was fine after the procedure. A week later, I went in to get the crown fitting and a post placed. I had intense pain after that was done and 5 days later, I couldn’t feel the left part of my chin and the three teeth next to the one with the root canal felt crowded and tight. I went back to the dentist and he said he had no idea why I was experiencing numbing since they had not done any surgery and therefore, it was unlikely that my nerve had been damaged. He put me on antibiotics and steroids, but it is now it’s now 2 weeks later and the numbness and tightness is still there. The dentist is doing a “wait and see” approach and I am not sure if I should go somewhere else. Could there be more harm in waiting for the numbness to go away? Or is it possible that the nerve just needs time to heal? Please advise me!
How Can I fix My Teeth Without Effecting My Speech And Appearance On The Way
Friday, January 25th, 2013I currently have a bridge over a front missing tooth, anchored on both sides. The remaining front tooth that is an anchor has a root fill, this was done some 20 years ago. I have some gingivitus around the gum line of this tooth and now have discomfort on the very top edge of the bridged tooth up against the gum line. The bridge is very firm, but I feel discomfort when pressure is put on the tooth. I have been given Amoxicillin which has not eased the problem. I have had an Xray and the root canal is still good with no absess or problems showing on the xray but there is a metal plate on the back of the bridge that covers anything that may be going on with the tooth itself. I am paranoid about them doing anything with the bridge in case I end up loosing the front anchoring tooth. The dentist has suggested a course of flagyl next stept. I do lots of lectures and am very self concious about my speech and my appearance – what should I do not please?
What Is The Cost Of Having An Implant?
Friday, January 18th, 2013Hi, after having root canal in my eye tooth, a year later I got an infection in the guu, after numerous anti-biotics my dentist referred me to the hospital to have the tooth removed and a false one on a plate put in. I was very upset as I did not want to have a plate. On visiting the hospital they said they could try and save the tooth by splitting the gum open to rid the infection. I had this procedure last August. Unfortunately the infection is back as my gum is turning black around the tooth again, with discomfort and a nasty taste. I was wondering if you could advise me of the cost of having the tooth removed replaced by a screw in one. Regards
