I Am Considering A Maryland Bridge, How Long Do They Last With Good Oral Hygiene?

Tuesday, November 26th, 2013
Q.

Hi Marcus. I am considering having a Maryland Bridge put in because I hate wearing the flipper and I don’t want to wait a year for an implant. Is it true that the Maryland Bridge can cause my teeth to darken? How long can the Maryland bridge last with good oral hygiene?
I have already had the initial extraction and grafting done by an oral surgeon. I am now wearing the flipper but don’t like it. Hard to eat with and not easy to talk as I do lectures and training. Would the MB be a wise choice for me?

I Want To Know Whether I Should Straighten My Teeth Before Getting Caps Or After?

Tuesday, November 26th, 2013
Q.

Hello Dr Moore, I’d like to discuss a problem I have. Currently I’m undergoing extensive gum grafting and implant preparation for two teeth with an eye toward crowns for the rest. My desire is to have my teeth straightened at some point. Still, my other dental team members seem to be running into interference with my orthodontist, so I don’t have his input. Should I wait until my teeth are capped and the implants installed before seeking further alignments? I hope you can help me with this and offer your advice. Thank you.

Can You Recommend A Top Dental Clinic To Fit Permanent Crowns?

Tuesday, November 5th, 2013
Q.

Hello Dr Shaffie. Can you recommend a top dental clinic to fit permanent crowns? I have temporary crowns in two adjacent molar implants fitted a year ago. How much should I expect to pay?

The current crown is a twin crown fitted into typical titanium abutments, which are fitted very well and securely.
I need to have top quality work done and cost is not the big issue. Reliable work and after care is most important.  My oral hygiene is very good and enjoy good health . I am 70 years of age and I would like this problem sorted out.
Thank you in advance for any advice you can offer me.

I Need A Permanent Solution As I Don’t Like Wearing Partial Dentures. What Can Be Done?

Tuesday, October 29th, 2013
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes, I have periodontitis also known as gum disease, and just had my lower two teeth pulled out yesterday. I’m on partial dentures at the moment and I hate the feel of it, I can’t afford dental implants and my dentist says that I would have to wait six months for the gums to heal and he will give me a Maryland bridge only after six months. My X-ray has shown that the supporting teeth will hold it fine, I’m really depressed and need a permanent solution? Is this the correct treatment option to take? I hope you can hope me sort this out as I’m getting sick of it. Thank you.

If My Damaged Tooth Is Crowned, Will It Fracture The Root And What Are My Other Options?

Monday, October 28th, 2013
Q.

Hi Dr Hughes. My upper left lateral was crowned to the base of the root after an abscess, which led to subsequent root canal treatment and finally the breaking of the weakened tooth. The post has broken with around a quarter of it still left in the root. Currently it is temporarily re-cemented back in.

Could this be re-crowned or is the removal of the remaining bit of the post likely to fracture the root?

Is is possible to have this re-crowned or is the only option, if I do not want a denture or the risk of damage to the adjoining teeth by a bridge, an implant?

Thank you.

I Don’t Know Why My Teeth Are Breaking, I’m Scared I’ll Need A Mouth Full Of Implants. Could It Be A Vitamin Deficiency?

Monday, October 28th, 2013
Q.

Hello Dr Patel. I would really like to know why my teeth keep breaking, could it have anything to do with a vitamin B12 deficiency? I’m finding I cannot afford to look after them. Is there any help I can receive? Top and bottom on both sides teeth have just snapped, I’m finding it difficult to smile and usually I’m a happy person but this is depressing me. My gums are okay though. I eat healthily and never eat sweets but I do indulge in savoury foods. My sister has had gum disease and had to have a full mouth of implants, I’m a bit scared that will be me soon.

I’ve Not Looked After My Oral Heath Recently And Would Like To Know If I Could Get Implants Through The NHS?

Wednesday, October 23rd, 2013
Q.

Hi Dr Shaffie, I hope you can help. I used to be really good at going to see my dentist and looking after my teeth, but when I was a child and teens, my dad and  I moved and went to a new dentist and he was really hurting me and was rough. After that I stopped looking after my teeth as well as I should, I did not go any dentist until my teeth needed pulling, I know I don’t look after my teeth the way I should. I would like to know if I could get tooth implants on the NHS, and if not, how much would each one cost individually? Thank you for your time and consideration in advance.

I Need Braces To Open Up A Space For Dental Implants. Can Braces Be Placed Over A Maryland Bridge?

Monday, October 14th, 2013
Q.

Hi there, I had braces as a child to open up space for my missing lateral incisors to be placed with dental implants when I was old enough, now I am 18 years old and have been told I will need braces once again as there is not enough space in the roots for dental implants, I am getting braces to open up roots space for dental implants for my missing laterals which are currently replaced with a Maryland bridge, can braces be placed over the bridge I have? Also what is the estimated time for the braces to open up a few mm of root space?

Hi Dr, I Have Bad Toothache Which Is Throbbing, I’ve Read That My Tooth Might Be Pulled, Will I Be Able To Replace It?

Thursday, October 3rd, 2013
Q.

Hello Dr Shaffie. I have a couple of problems I need to discuss. I have had some bad toothache on the left side and it is really hurting, throbbing, I get swollen glands and the pain also effects the left side of my face and my ear also hurts and the tooth is also decayed so it might be an abscessed tooth. When I brush my teeth, it always bleeds sometimes a lot of. I also have poor dental hygiene.

I have read online that the tooth is most likely pulled out – Can I replace the tooth ? How do I get rid of the pain? I really need some help with this.

I Am Really Against Having To Wear Fixed Braces, Should I Get Implants Or Keep My Natural Teeth?

Monday, September 30th, 2013
Q.

Hi, I had orthodontic work in my teens/early 20’s to straighten my teeth. I wore fixed braces for 6 years and had 6 teeth taken out as part of the procedure. I also had a bottom jaw operation to bring my jaw forward as it was believed this was causing my top front teeth to protrude. I wore retainers (top and bottom) for a year afterwards as prescribed. 12 years on and my teeth are relapsing. As an unconfident mid 30’s single female, I am really against having to wear fixed braces (I’ve been told this is the only proper way to fix my problem by several orthodontics) for another 12 -18 months and am now at a point of desperation where I want to have my top 6 front teeth removed and implants put in their place for a quicker and permanent solution as I’m terrified my teeth could relapse AGAIN after having had the work redone. Is this possible or are Cosmetic Dentists against removing healthy teeth?
