Can I Get Dental Implants Funded by the NHS?

Thursday, May 19th, 2016
Q.

Being a OAP, can anyone put a smile back on my face by offering to give me implants? I have tried false teeth but they are not good, I can’t wear them and can’t eat with them either. My gums are hurting trying to eat meat and hard things like apples or oranges or even sweets. It’s very hard to cope with this, is there any way the government can get the NHS to fund this (teeth implant) so I can get the chance to smile again?

Can I Have My Teeth Screwed in After Having Dentures for 29 Years?

Friday, February 6th, 2015
Q.

How much does it cost to have your teeth screwed in? I’ve had dentures for 29 years and I hate them. All my teeth are bad. Can I even get screwed in teeth after having dentures for so long? Are there any dental plans that help with the cost? I am poor and living on social security. What are veneers? Do you take them out or are they permanent? I hate having something on the roof of my mouth and my teeth don’t fit me well and sometimes cause discomfort.

I Am Unsure As To Whether Dental Implants Are Suitable For Me At The Age Of 74. Is It Wise?

Monday, July 21st, 2014
Q.

Hello Mark. I have been assessed for dental implants for my top jaw. Is it wise at my age 74 to have this work done? I am in very good health but have fairly severe periodontitis, and I do not want to put myself into a position where I have to have remedial work done in my 80’s if I survive that long? I currently have a bridge of 4 at the front, two crowns and I have lost all wisdom teeth and one molar(5) in upper left jaw. The teeth in my upper jaw are mostly loose, and the bridge which was done in 2012 is loose. I have recently taken antibiotics and have been using hydrogen peroxide mouthwash, my mouth has certainly improved in recent weeks. I have had gum disease for several years, but the severity of it has only recently become apparent. I have attended for dental treatment on a regular basis all my life. My main fear is that the periodontitis will continue regardless if I have implants. I have also been recommended for a course of intensive hygiene treatment.

How Can I Get My New Dentures Filed Down To My Liking?

Wednesday, February 26th, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark. I’ve had full dentures for 17 years and have now got a new pair of dentures. The fitting is good but I feel the top plate teeth are too big or long and the bottom plate has some sharp teeth which means I bite the inside of my lips quite a lot and is very frustrating. Can these be filed down to my liking? The bottom plate is good but I feel it moves quite a lot when I eat, yawn or swallow. I have been back to my dentist to talk to her about this and she did file them down, but after 3 days of trying them again they still feel the same. Can you advise me on what I should do?

My Husband Struggles To Eat Properly As His Dentures Don’t Stay Firm, Can He Have Implants To Solve This Problem?

Wednesday, October 2nd, 2013
Q.

Hello Dr Patel, what I’d like to mention is about my husband who currently has no bottom teeth and a top denture, he had a bottom denture made but does not wear it as it does not stay firm when eating or talking. He has trouble eating a lot of foods, as he cannot chew it properly, eg: Salads, he cannot chew lettuce, most other foods he just sucks or mushes with his tongue, not very enjoyable for him. I have heard previously that you can get two screw in teeth and then a denture that will clip to these, hence no movement of bottom plate. Was wondering what cost would be involved and how long procedure would take? I really hope you can help us sort this out.

I Need To Know If I Can Have A Tooth Replacement Via A Crown Instead Of Having To Wear Dentures?

Monday, September 2nd, 2013
Q.

Hello Dr Patel, I need to tell you that I currently have a missing front tooth, and I am wondering if you know whether I can have a false one fitted via a crown, instead of having to wear dentures? I have stopped smoking as to help my dental hygiene and have lost most of my lower back teeth as well. My other related problems are that I get chronic indigestion and sore gums, and I have stained teeth due to a medicine I was given as a baby and had crowns fitted fifteen years ago to make me have white teeth. I keep on top of my oral health and brush my teeth twice a day and I also use cordisol mouthwash. I really hope you can guide me in these matters, kind regards and thank you.

What other options do I have to plate dentures with implants?

Tuesday, November 29th, 2011
Q.

Mine is rather unique situation. I am on a long trip from Australia.I have purchased a small house on the north coast of France and we be renovating for over a year.
Before I left Australia four months ago I had to have all my top teeth removed. The gum has healed well and recently I went to the Brighton Implant Clinic who did a panoramic xray and told me I was fine for an all on four procedure.
But I have decided I am not happy with the All on Four or any procedure which includes flap type surgery.
I cant wear a top denture. I gag even with the concave piece ground out of the back. I have an overbight and really need a denture without a top plate.
The only option I have left and which I pray will suite me is a removable denture with no top plate and ball bearings onto the o rings.
I have also lost a number of teeth on the bottom but the problem is I only have a limited budget because of the burden of renovating.
Are you able to help me? Brighton Implant Clinic said I would have to come back numerous times which isi financially impossilbe for me. I have tried contacting Dental clinics in France but I dont feel I can communicate with my limited language skills. Can you help me?
Regards
